No U21 Return For Jay Rodriguez Wednesday, 20th May 2015 08:29 After speculation from the club itself that jay Rodriguez would make a return to playing action against Manchester City U21's at St Mary's he didn't ! All eyes were on St Mary's last night with the young Saints side taking on the City equivalent, it was expected that jay Rodriguez would play some part in the game with Ronald Koeman saying last week that he hopes that the player would get 35-45 minutes under his belt that could push him into contention for a place in the first team squad for the trip to the Etihad on Sunday. However there was no sign of Rodriguez in either the starting line up or on the bench and after beating City on their own patch at the weekend 2-0 Saints went down to a disappointing 4-0 defeat at St Mary's. But their has been no mention of why Rodriguez didn't make an appearance and whether there is anything to read into as to why that was the case. Hopefully it will just be Saints erring on the side of caution after the win against Aston Villa, perhaps the fact that Saints opened the floodgates goal wise lead Ronald Koeman to decide that all things considered it would be wiser to not rush J Rod back into a comeback and risk any problems, but give him those extra couple of months to get back fit and recovered and ready for next season.
