With debts spiralling above the value of the ground, an illegal loan taken from the chairman of Oldham Athletc, players being sold, season ticket orders not being processed, card machines being seized from the ground and all manner of rumours and counter rumours besides it really was a tough time to be a QPR supporter. ‘So what?’ you may think, we’re rich now, who cares? While it is certainly nice to be “sailing in safe waters” for real it’s also worth remembering just how close we came, if for no other reason than to make sure it doesn’t happen again. There follows a series of articles published on Loft for Words as the story unfolded. It only seemed to be heading one way, but Flavio Briatore arrived in the nick of time, although even that seemed to be in doubt right up to the eleventh hour.
To make matters worse we lost the club’s brightest young talent Ray Jones in a car crash early in August. A tough time for our club all round.
