Monk Plays Down New Arrival Talk
Wednesday, 15th Jul 2015 08:25 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

Garry Monk has given the biggest hint yet that the Swans transfer business is all done for the summer although he dismissed talk that he was definitely finished in the transfer market for the summer so rumours will continue to surface.

Headlines of "Garry Monk says Swansea City's transfer business is all done" are therefore slightly misleading although the manager is delighted to have made his four main captures so early in the transfer window giving him time to work properly with them ahead of the season opener at Chelsea on August 8th.

Monk has so far seen the Swans complete the signature of Kristoffer Nordfeldt, Franck Tabanou, Andre Ayew and Eder as he builds on top of the squad that secured a record breaking 8th place last term. Nobody has left the club so far although Leon Britton looks set to be on his way to Orlando City at some point but you could easily say that unless someone now leaves who is not expected to then new arrivals are certainly not high on the list of priorities for Monk.

"We said we wanted to get the right targets in early as possible to allow us to prepare as we are doing now, with a full squad for as long as possible," said the Swansea boss.

"You are still seeing teams doing deals. But the longer I can have to prepare with the full squad, the way we are going to play and how we are going to approach games and everything like that, the better it is for us.

"All the players we have brought in are players I really wanted. I wouldn't bring them in otherwise.

"We did some really good business last summer. It was a big transition with 12 players leaving and eight coming in, then in January we bought Jack Cork, Kyle Naughton and Matty Grimes.

"This year I said to Huw (Jenkins) that after that big transition, which we did really well with considering, we would get to a point where we would have to do a lot less work.

"We have brought four players in this summer. There could possibly be some more but it's highly likely not to happen and there is nothing imminent."

The Swans continue to be linked with moves for players with three linked yesterday but given the settled nature of the squad and the fact that we now have quality cover in every position it is highly doubtful that we will see too much activity in the remaining 7 weeks of the transfer window.

It is commendable that the club have managed to do their deals so early and certainly refreshing from the last minute panic that we see from so many clubs on deadline day.

"We are still looking at all positions – you have got to pre-empt things and be ready for anything because things can go from nothing to something in a day" added Monk

"But I don't see too many more coming in, if any.

"I am very happy with the squad I have got."
