Billy Jones - Beating Swansea Would Be A Statement
Wednesday, 19th Aug 2015 06:15 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

Sunderland will head into the game against us this weekend looking to make a statement to the fans who are already writing them off and defender Billy Jones believes that a win against Swansea would be the very statement that they need.

Sunderland lie bottom of the Premier League after two games with a goal difference of minus 4 and no points to their name. And it is probably worse than that when you consider the mass exodus of their own fans on Saturday when they went 3-0 down to Norwich within an hour.

They have been widely criticised for not spending enough to be serious about staying in the Premier League and on and off the pitch they look like a club in trouble.

But that probably has to turn at some time and we can only hope it is not against us this weekend but Jones believes that is exactly what is needed for the club.

“The only way we can kick start it [our season] is by winning games and we’ve got a massive chance to do that against Swansea" said Jones.

"Obviously everyone knows what a good team Swansea are so that’ll be a statement in itself to beat them on our home turf and beat them with a good performance.

“We know it’s going to be a really tough game but we’ve got another week to work hard on the training, so hopefully we can put in a better performance on Saturday which gets us the three points"
