Midweek Championship Preview
Midweek Championship Preview
Sunday, 19th Oct 2008 23:55

As it seems the final whistles have just blown on the weekend's games, LFW looks ahead to a full midweek programme of fixtures in the Coca Cola Championship.

As always after an International break, the weekend’s fixtures are closely followed by a full midweek programme as supporters have to test their loyalty, dig deep, take time off from their usual daytime activities to make horrendous journeys up and down the country to follow their football team.

Tuesday’s fixtures are certainly no different with really only one game that is kind to the travelling fan and is the stand out game of the night… Hot on the heels of their weekend derby win over bitter rivals, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday make the short trip to Oakwell to take on Barnsley in another all Yorkshire encounter. The Owls will be going into the game full of confidence after their Sunday lunchtime victory over the Blades, a win that has taken them into 5th place in the table and above their neighbours. They will be hoping to win bragging rights over Barnsley too, who came away from Palace on Saturday on the wrong end of a 3-0 reverse.

Back onto the horrendous journeys and the worst of all is expecting Preston fans to make a gruelling midweek trek down to Plymouth. The game itself has the makings of a goodun with Preston ending their recent poor run with victory over an in form Reading side at Deepdale on Saturday. Plymouth’s good run however, came to an abrupt end as Derby won the battle of the form sides at Pride Park at the weekend.

Moving swiftly on and the ridiculous fixtures for the poor football supporter continue as struggling Doncaster travel to Reading, another struggling side, Southampton make the long trip North to Sheffield United. QPR’s trip to Swansea is hardly generous either and one that sadly, I will be unable to attend. New leaders Wolves travel to Norwich who are still yet to find any sort of consistant form and currently sit fourth from bottom. Second placed Birmingham are at home to improving Crystal Palace and after breaking their recent goal drought at QPR on Saturday, bottom club Forest will be looking to end their winless streak with a home tie against Ipswich.
