Jose Fonte Trying To Persuade Alex Oxlade Chamberlain Into Saints Reunion !
Sunday, 10th Apr 2016 10:42

Jose Fonte is trying to talk Alex Oxlade Chamberlain into returning to Southampton from Arsenal in the summer according to the Daily Mirror.

The Mirror has published a story claiming that Jose Fonte has been trying to talk Oxlade Chamberlain into returning to St Mary's in the summer after failing to persuade him to make the move in the January transfer window.

AOC left Saints in the summer of 2011 for a reported transfer fee of £12 million, allegedly after his Father fell out with then Chairman Nicola Cortese over a new contract.

Now apparently AOC is considering his options due to a lack of game time for the Gunners, after five seasons at the Emirates he has only started 49 Premier League games plus another 51 as sub, only just over half of the games he could have played, although in fairness injury has also restricted him.

According to the Mirror Chelsea and West Ham are interested, but he is not keen on a move to another London club in respect to Arsenal and their supporters.

That could leave Saints in the driving seat and the Mirror are saying that Fonte is in contact with AOC and trying to talk him into a move back down South.

Certainly Oxlade Chamberlain would be a good addition to the Saints squad with his ability to play in several attacking roles, but the big question would be how much would he cost, Arsenal would value him at far higher than they paid Saints for him and his wages might also be an issue.

But the Gunners are not under any great pressure to cash in on him given that he has two years left on his contract, so AOC might want to go, but will Arsenal want to sell, maybe they will but time is on their side at present and they can hold on for the highest price, it is more likely that he would leave in the January transfer window if he has not signed a new deal by then.

Somehow I don't think he would come back, despite his obvious attention. I think United would be a good match for him

Rarely works out when a player comes back. I'd make an exception for MS, but that's even more unlikely.

How these stories get any traction at all is beyond me. Besides which he isn't all that good, very much a one-trick pony. If Jose is trying to influence people then he should concentrate his efforts on Victor and Sadio and keep Virgil's head in the right place.
