All the pressure is on Pompey's rivals
Monday, 10th Apr 2017 20:31 by pompey-fans.com staff

Paul Cook believes Pompey have put all the pressure on their rivals for the third promotion spot with their timely run of six wins in seven games.

The latest victory - a 3-1 home triumph over Yeovil - left the Blues eight points clear of Luton, now their closest chasers, with just five games to go.

It means eight points from their own final five games will ensure Pompey finish in the top three, and that's without allowing for any slip by their rivals.

Cook is insistent his side have achieved nothing yet but is delighted at the position Pompey have worked themselves into.

He told the club website: 'The onus is on other teams now and we’ve got a very clear pathway to what we want to achieve. But you can’t get ahead of yourself — I’ve been in this game long enough to know that. We’ll stay professional.

'Football has a habit of kicking you when you least expect it, but our lads are working hard and we have to stay focused. I wish we were already promoted like Doncaster — and well done to them for that — but we’ve still got work to do.

'We had a lot of lads playing well and Jamal’s come on to score his first goal, so we’re in a good place at the moment. There are still three matches to play at Fratton Park and the pitch here suits the way we like to pass the ball around.

'Great credit to the lads for dominating the game after conceding a goal and looking a really good side. We’ll enjoy the result as we should, but then we’ll start to look forward to an exciting game against Plymouth on Friday.'
