Pitman to score goals? You Brett!
Saturday, 15th Jul 2017 19:31 by pompey-fans.com staff

Brett Pitman didn't take long to open his Pompey account - scoring after just five minutes to help his new club on their way to another pre-season victory at Bognor.

The former Bournemouth striker added a second late on as the Blues beat their National League South hosts 2-0 in front of a decent-sized crowd in West Sussex.

Pompey had the better of the game but lacked the killer instinct in front of goal, with Pitman, Conor Chaplin, Christian Burgess and Carl Baker all seeing efforts go wide or saved by in-form home keeper Dan Lincoln.

This was possibly close to the starting line-up Kenny Jackett plans to have in place for the League One opener in three weeks' time, with new keeper Luke McGee also making his bow and -despite not having much to do for long periods - showing his quality with a low point-blank save towards the end of the game.

Tareiq Holmes-Dennis was another new boy to shine, having a solid game at left-back, while midfielder Adam May took his chance well in the centre.

Pitman's first goal was set up by Chaplin after Sami El-Abd mishit a backpass to his keeper - the new signing had a simple tap-in after Chaplin pulled it back to him a few yards from goal.

His second, which wrapped up the win, came after Baker found him free with only the keeper to beat.

Pompey: McGee; Evans, Burgess, Davies, Holmes-Dennis; May, Rose; Baker, Pitman (c), Bennett; Chaplin. Subs not used: Bass, Talbot, Whatmough, Close, Lalkovic, Naismith, Main

Referee: Gary Parsons

Attendance: 1,800
