Down in the East Midlands and Nigel Clough has declared he intends to snub the film about his Dad's time at Leeds, which premieres in London tonight.

"The Damned United", the long awaited film of the book by David Pease premieres tonight in London.

It is the story about one of the most fascinating events in British Footballing history. Brian Clough's 44-days in charge of Leeds United in 1974.

You will recall if you were around then and even if you were a babe in arms (like moi!) or not even born, you cannot fail to be aware of the controversy. In their search for a successor for England bound Don Revie, the Leeds board bizarrely turned to Brian Clough.

Whilst manager at rivals Derby County, Clough had vehemently criticised Revie's Leeds and even called for them to be dumped into the Second Division for what he perceived as lack-of-discipline.

The appointment was doomed to fail and Clough was out after 44-days.

Initially the book caused outrage in the Clough family, with Clough's widow Barbara reportedly "deeply upset" at the way it protrays her late husband. However despite the producers of the film insisting that it is much more "light hearted" than the book and one radio advert describing it as "the feelgood football movie of the millennium", the family remain determined to snub the film.

Speaking in today's Derby Evening Telegraph, Clough's son Nigel, now manager of Derby County said: "

"I haven't read the book and I haven't seen the film, or intend seeing the film.

"I just go on the principle that if it's based on the book, which deeply upset my mum and quite a few people, then we won't be going down the road to see the film.

"It is strange that somebody who never met him has written this so-called book based on faction, I believe they call it.

"There were some approaches made for us to view the film and that sort of thing, I think, but there was certainly no input."

The film is released nationally on March 27th.
