As always, we bring you our lowdown on the referee for our forthcoming matches, and it would seem Saturday's is a lucky charm for us.

Dale will be hoping for a case of deja-vu when referee Danny McDermid makes the long trip from London to officiate at Spotland on Saturday.

We have seen him in the middle just twice before, but on both occasions the results were heavily weighted in our favour.

In September 2006 Danny took charge of Dale’s 3-0 win at Boston, while just over 12 months ago he was the referee for our famous 7-2 thrashing of Stockport.

Quite what Danny is doing so far north is anyone’s guess, but we hope he manages to steer clear of the controversy that seems to surround his games.

On Easter Saturday he booked six Accrington players and sent-off their manager John Coleman at Chesterfield, while in September he was reported by Leeds United for allegedly swearing at their then manager Dennis Wise.

This was surely one of the biggest ironies of all time!

Mr McDermid, who we believe serves in the Army, is in only his second season at this level, but his 21 games this term have produced 75 yellow cards and 7 red.

He hasn’t sent a player off since Boxing Day, though, so maybe he’s due!!
