Clegg: Deals Could Be Done Before Exits

Chief executive Simon Clegg says boss Roy Keane will be given the cash to sign the right player at the right price before any unwanted members of his squad are moved on. However, Clegg says no deals are currently imminent.

The Blues chief executive says potential targets are being eyed: “There is nothing likely to happen for a while, but we have players we are looking at and if it was thought they would make a big difference — and the price was right — a deal could be struck without having to clear the decks first.”

A fortnight ago, Keane revealed that the Blues had failed to land his main two targets, understood to be Crystal Palace skipper Shaun Derry, now with QPR, and Cardiff’s Michael Chopra, but felt that one of those deals could be revived.

Clegg and owner Marcus Evans are keen to reduce the wage bill and the club have circulated a list of eight players who are available for transfer.

Last week, Crystal Palace boss George Burley made his interest in midfielder Owen Garvan known, but Keane denied that the Blues had received a formal bid.
