Former loan players in Football Masters

There are a couple of former Dale players taking part in the Yorkshire Masters event this weekend, including one who's name still brings a shudder.

Matt Dickens will be playing for Sheffield United in the event, whilst Lee Duxbury will be playing for Huddersfield in the competition that is broadcast live on Sky Sports from 6pm on Sunday.

Dickens had a brief spell at Dale in the mid 90's but did enough to be comfortably named as the worst ever Dale player every time such a poll comes up, conceding fifteen goals in just four games and was pretty much the final nail in Dave Sutton's coffin.

Duxbury had a happier time at Spotland. He joined the club on loan from Bradford back in 1990, and played in the 5th Round FA Cup game against Crystal Palace, and has never been named as our worst ever player.

There's been a large number of former Dale players in the various Football Masters events taking place over the Summer. The Central Masters which kicked off the season saw Darryl Burgess, Scott Taylor and Kevin Pilkington representing various clubs.

It was the Mersey Masters which was practically a Who's Who of Dale veterans. John Doolan captained Wigan, whilst Ged Brannan represented Tranmere. Blackpool had former Dale coach Colin Greenall alongside current Dale coach Tony Ellis and Preston may as well have renamed themselves as the Dale masters with Graeme Atkinson, Andy Fensome, Chris Lucketti and Ian Bryson in their side.
