Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has confirmed that Town have made an enquiry regarding Hungarian international keeper Márton Fülöp. However, Bruce says he doesn’t think the move has as yet gone as far as a formal bid.

On Wednesday, the Blues were reported to have offered £1 million for the 27-year-old, who played for Roy Keane during his spell as boss at the Stadium of Light. Further reports on Thursday claimed the offer to be as high as £1.5 million.

Bruce says Fülöp is very much out of his plans, despite first choice Craig Gordon breaking an arm, and that other clubs aside from Town are interested, West Brom also having been linked: “There has been an enquiry from Ipswich, but I don’t think there has been a bid yet. There has been talk with a number of other clubs as well.

“I’m sure he will go. He wants to play football and I’m not going to stand in his way. With the injury to Craig, it has got me thinking a bit, but Márton wants to play regularly so something will happen there. I don’t know whether it will be Ipswich, we’ll have to wait and see.”

Fülöp is an international colleague and close friend of Town striker Tamás Priskin.
