Bristol City Linked With Stead Move

Bristol City are reported to have made a £200,000 bid for Town striker Jon Stead. The former Sheffield United, Blackburn and Huddersfield man was amongst the eight players the Blues recently made available for transfer.

Earlier in the summer, Town had agreed a £400,000 fee with Stead’s former loan club Coventry for the 27-year-old, but the move broke down after the Sky Blues sacked manager Chris Coleman. Stead’s hometown side Huddersfield, where he started his career, have also been linked.

This morning, Town boss Roy Keane revealed that the Blues were in talks with three clubs who are interested in current squad members.

Two of those possible deals are likely to be Owen Garvan’s proposed move to Crystal Palace and Alex Bruce’s expected switch to Sheffield United, while the third could be any number of potential deals with QPR understood to be interested in Jon Walters, Swansea in Tamás Priskin and Millwall and Charlton amongst various clubs believed to be chasing Kevin Lisbie.

Meanwhile, the Blues will not be entering a reserve side in the LB Group Suffolk Premier Cup this season. Former boss Jim Magilton revived Town’s involvement in the competition in 2006, but it has often proved difficult to fit in the fixtures. The Blues won last season’s competition, beating Needham Market 4-1 in the final at Portman Road.
