Dyer Signs New Deal

Nathan Dyer has signed a new deal at St Mary's

Nathan Dyer has put pen to paper on a new contract tying him to the club until 2011, citing the new coaching set up as a major influence in deciding to stay.

Of course we know that a lot of what is being put out is PR spin and the fact is that for several reasons Dyer has found that he is not as in demand as he thought he would be and that the grass isnt always greener.

Of course there is now the question of the court case to get out of the way and then hopefully Dyer can start to get on with his life.

Its hoped though that their is a little truth in the spin, certainly Jan Poortvliet showed that he isnt a man to pander to the posturings of precocious footballers and he played hardball with Dyer in excluding him from training, this has to be applauded and must have played some part in making Dyer see sense.

If the past six months can show Dyer that the path he was taking was wrong and he is now willing to knuckle down and mend his ways then hopefully this will be to the benefit of Saints, as I said in my earlier article, Dyer has yet to fufill his potential, whether he ever will is open to debate, but I do know that he has a far better chance of doing so with the Club next season than in the reserves of a premiership side.

I truly didnt care whether Dyer sttayed or went, however I would prefer him to go in say, the january transfer window for £3 million, because he has had a great season, than the £500-600k we would have got for him at a tribunal.

Dyer has said the right things today, lets hoped that he backs up his fine words with actions.
