Robbo At His Best

Roberto: "This Will Be Robbo's Best"

Robbo: This Will Be His Best

Andy Robinson notched his first two goals of the season at Walsall yesterday to inspire the Swans to a 3-1 victory and their first league triumph of the campaign.

Robinson drove a shot home after a typical cut in from the left whilst he was on hand to take over penalty duties when Duffy was hacked down when through on goal. As Swansea's new penalty taker following the departure of his best mate Lee Trundle, Robinson coolly sent the keeper the wrong way to give the Swans the deserved points.

Robinson, who arrived at Swansea in 2003 has been a more or less permanent feature in the matchday squad since his arrival but has split many sections of the fans as to his best role. More frequently he has been used on the left hand side of midfield but it does appear that under Roberto, although holding the same position, he has become more effective at the role.

And Roberto believes that there are big things ahead of the scouser this season, telling the Wales on Sunday "This is going to be Andy Robinson's best season in professional football

"He is a very mature character and we have given him huge responsibility this season - which he has taken.

"He's at an important stage in his career. Tactically he has never been better."

And words like that can only benefit Swansea City. Robinson grabbed 18 goals in the season we reached the play off final - including the second in that game - and that level of goals from midfield is not achieved by too many midfielders in the four main English leagues.

A return of double figures would be a tremendous bonus and reduce the burden on the strikers and if Roberto can get the best out of Robbo then it's good news all round.

Long may it continue.
