Canavan joins Argyle

Niall Canavan becomes the first of our released players to get themselves signed up for next season by signing a deal at Plymouth Argyle.

it's perhaps a surprise to see Canavan fix himself with another League One side, especially one which finished above ourselves, after a mixed spell at Spotland. Despite impressing on his initial loan spell from Scunthorpe, he started just half the league games in the first season of his two year deal and just three matches in what was an injury hit second season. Even had he been fully fit, he had fallen down the defensive pecking order.

In signing for the Pilgrims, Canavan admitted that he knew they had been interested in him for a while telling the official Plymouth website: "I would be lying if I said I didn’t keep an eye on the results last season and in particular the re-arranged fixture at Rochdale .The boys knew Plymouth were hot at the time as they had won how ever many in a row. I was really impressed that night and it only furthered my interest, I knew it was somewhere I wanted to go."

Canavan leaves Spotland with thirty nine league appearances to his name with three goals.
