Marc Edwards will make the trip down from County Durham to referee Dale’s League One fixture against Burton Albion on Saturday.
Currently in his second season on the National List, Marc has only refereed one previous Dale game, that being the 2-1 defeat at Coventry in November 2019
Mr Edwards was promoted to the National List for 2019/20 after a couple of seasons refereeing in the National League.
His first EFL appointment was Cambridge v Newport and despite being based in the North-East, Marc has been sent on some quite long journeys for his games, with trips to Peterborough, Shrewsbury, Northampton and Ipswich since the turn of the year.
That match at Ipswich - last Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Oxford — was Edwards’ 21st appointment this season, in which he has shown 76 yellow cards.
And one further piece of information, Marc’s wife is Helen Byrne, the female assistant referee who has officiated at several Dale games, although I believe she is currently taking a break from lining after becoming a mother.
