Back To Premier League Action For Southampton With No Room For Excuses !

An important week for Saints starts with the visit of Burnley to St Mary's on Sunday and it is time that Saints put this season to bed with a win or two, the time for excuses is over and the time for action is here.

I have been a lot more lenient than some of my fellow Saints fans during our awful run of the last three months, I could see the issues that we had with injuries and a host of other things that went against us including poor refereeing and VAR calls and just plain bad luck.

But we take on Burnley with both Danny Ings and Theo Walcott back in the squad and although we still do have a long injury list, the time for excuses is now over.

In truth there were no excuses for the defeat to Brighton, for me that was the most disappointing defeat of the last three months, we just didn't turn up on that day and we can't afford for that to happen again.

Against Bournemouth we showed the fire that we had earlier in the season and we need some of that again when Burnley arrive on Sunday.

To be blunt, if we take four points out of the next two games, then that will dispel all thoughts of getting dragged into the relegation dog fight, but get beaten in both and make no mistake we will be looking over our shoulders.

But we need to be positive, there are mitigating circumstances for the terrible run, good teams do not turn into bad ones overnight, there were reasons why we went on the run, those reasons are in the main gone now, it is time to win a few games and turn this season into one of hope and not trepidation.
