Whilst I agree that he was awful, he hadn't worked directly as Hilly's number two at that time and the squad he was left to work with by Eyre was out of it's depth. I wouldn't be averse to giving him another chance now if Hilly was to move on.

I'd be inclined to agree there. I was one of his biggest critics around the whole lead up to and aftermath at the end of Eyres tenure. I would now however think he's had time to make a better Manager given the opportunity.
