Keith Welch's league debut for Dale.

I see from the table later on that Northampton were 20 points clear at the top. I think they beat us 5-0 at the cricket ground that season and one of their players, maybe RIchard Hill, scored shedloads of goals that season.

I was scouting with Trevor Jones a few years ago and he told me how that Northampton team were a really good side but that they also liked to give teams a good kicking. Redfern's fingers had to be taped together after the challenge that presumably lost him his place to Welch.
