Little advice needed. 21:01 - Nov 17 with 1993 viewsThacks_Rabbits

Non football related but in a quandary here. My boss is basically old school inappropriate bully. I personally don’t get a lot of grief but others do. I am starting to find my position untenable due to this. If anyone can help it would be appreciated. It is starting to get to me a little and whilst I am not daft any advice or help would be great. Cheers thacks

My advice is probably wrong on all fronts but i will give it anyroads.

Personally i would make a point of documenting all incidents,i would then couple that with video and audio evidence which is non to difficult in this day n age.Once you have what you feel is appropriate then you can either not tell them and just place it in the hands of a employment specialist.

Personally i would take great pleasure in playing and showing such evidence to the bully ,then take them to the cleaners.

While it’s not illegal to record someone without their consent, it is risky if you plan to share with a third party. I seem to remember from my journo law lessons that it is inadmissible in criminal court and murky at best in civil cases.

I bow to your better knowledge, which is undoubtedly bob on.

I would still record the bully and show them on a one to one and if all else fails, chuck em in the boot of a car, with a shovel and take em up on blackstone edge!!

my advise is just general so.

Be careful of fighting another mans battles as noble as that is you run the risk of placing yourself in the firing line and don't be surprised if you find yourself fighting alone.

Before anything else happens make sure you are bullet proof with a parachute i,e, your future job prospects are certain and he cant get you back. Bullies are often vindictive.

Put your families interests to the forefront they, not yor work colleagues are your main priority.

Good luck with it.

This is not the time for bickering.

Document stuff. Now more than ever you don't need video or audio to call people to account. I'm not a fan of social media 'shaming' because it becomes abuse in itself, but depending on who they are, folk can and should be wary of it. Those getting the abuse should do the same.

Going off your post you state that your boss is "old school inappropriate bully" what is not clear is does your boss own the business or manage it.

The reason I question that is, if he is the owner he as probably never had any training regarding modern day legislation regarding bullying (and there is a lot of it, believe you me, I have had my fair share of training regarding this subject) otherwise he would not bully anyone.

If on the other hand he is your direct boss and a bully report him to your management, it's for them to deal with it not you.

The fact that you are posting this indicates to me that it is playing on your mind away from work.....that's stress but you may not realise it!

If you have a doctor go and have a chat, they are always good for advise.

Thanks for all the advice chaps. It is very much appreciated. I am in the position I can walk from Job and it won’t be world ending. To give you an idea of stuff my boss thinks appropriate is referring to a portly chap as Susan Boyle, another as Cant see his toes and another as dh. All of this is via email. I have hard copy’s but it’s so against all of me to take this further. Cheers thacks

Hasn't Susan Boyle lost a load of weight? If he's some sad edge lord then ask him to stop emailing you because you keep cutting your fingers on them.

I'm in general agreement with that

I've seen more than my fair share of bullying managers, not against me but against others, and anyone stepping in as a third party can easily find themselves becoming the target of the organisation

Have you spoken to the person, or people, being bullied? That's the first port of call. They might not appreciate your intervention

Every case is different. Good luck, but as kiwi says, watch your own back

If there is a union there, a chat with them may be a good starting point even if the person concerned is not a member.

Leave. Be on the lookout for job opportunities while your still there then when you have something new hand your notice in. Don't create any drama or leave on bad terms as you might need them in the future for a reference etc. A toxic work environment can really fuk someone up. Having been that guy who goes home snapping at his family and partner in the past due to work stress I can tell you it's really not worth it.

I'm going to play devils advocate and ask how old he is,is he 50+ and just see's what he says as banter,my workplace is 5000 strong and you would be surprised how many people say things that they regard as a joke but is trueful offensive, also its from my personal experience that if he's calling everyone to you then there's a good chance then he's calling you to everybody else as I'm presuming that you two aren't mates
