Murray, England talk 11:54 - Mar 13 with 1295 viewsJames1980

A Brighton supporting friend reckons there is a clause which would see Rochdale getting some cash if Glenn Murray gets an England cap.

I would say that's unlikely, as it's 11 years since we sold him to Brighton and he's been to Palace and back in that time.

That's what I thought. He said something about a clause we put in when we sold him to Brighton.

He could well be right, James.

Be nice if it is correct. He has to be called up first though of course.

Surely when Murray left Brighton on a free transfer to join Palace all those years ago the contract he signed was finished when he left - including any sell ons or clauses? (as he left on a free) I would be surprised if any initial 'playing for England' clause still stood? Hope I'm wrong though.

If Kane can't play, then the next best English goalscorer, right now, is Glenn Murray.

He should be called up for the upcoming friendlies.

I'd be surprised if we got anything, though, given the time since he left us and the number of transfers that he has made since.

While being high in the English scoring charts, I very much doubt Glen has a chance of getting into the England squad.

He's not the type of player Southgate (or myself) would want up front. England don't play wingers who wing cross after cross inand that is what Murray thrives on above anything else. Same goes for Andy Carroll each tournament he has been put forward.

Pace and nippy passing, alli, stirling, rashford, vardy, lallana etc.

Would be great for him if he got called up but can't see it myself.

I wonder if Keith will be asked about GM being talked about for England, in a future interview, just one of those what is your opinion on this type questions.

It wasn't that long ago that Keith was raving about Glenn Murray in an interview. He was saying if he had the chance to bring anyone or any striker to the club (can't remember which) then it would be Glenn Murray. Really was full of praise for him.

Could be worth a try in the friendlies as part of a plan B-Z
