Dawson - another bid perhaps? 11:27 - Jul 13 with 26037 viewsBigKindo

From The Lancashire Telegraph of 12 July 2018.

THERE'S a 'strong chance' Burnley will break their club record again this summer, according to boss Sean Dyche.

The Clarets are yet to make a new signing during the transfer window, but with four weeks until deadline day on Thursday, August 9, Dyche believes a deal that would top the £15million paid for Chris Wood last August could be on.

Asked if the club record was likely to go again for a fourth summer in a row, Dyche said: "There’s a strong chance, just by the fact that clubs now act as agents.

"It’s the irony of football that clubs question agents, but if you put a bid in for someone, as if by magic, it’s out on the wires within seconds. That's the nature of the game.

"We definitely need more numbers, we’re not deep in numbers, we know that.

"We want quality numbers, we don’t just want any old player who can fill a slot, we want players who can be competitive."

Burnley have been frustrated in their attempts to add to the squad this summer, with a £25million double bid for West Brom pair Craig Dawson and Jay Rodriguez rejected by the Baggies.

The Clarets refuse to pay over the odds for new recruits, but Dyche believes the approach can be 'stretched' as he looks to strengthen the ranks at Turf Moor.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph at Burnley's Cork training camp, Dyche said: "We’re in a very good position as a club, everyone knows that, but the club is run in a certain way.

MORE ARTICLES
"The chairman and the board want it run in that way, so it’s not a case of throwing money at every situation, it’s a case of throwing money at the right situation.

"You can’t rip up the values of the club for every deal that you do, but it is frustrating, because the market does move forward.

"Sometimes it takes our club mentality to learn it needs to be speeded up, because the market tells you it doesn’t care about good business sense, it doesn’t care about good planning and organisation and structure, the market cares about if you’re getting a team to win football matches.

"It’s finding that healthy balance between the two, which over the last six years we’ve done, we’re not going to rip that up and throw it all away, but it does need to be stretched a little bit so we can make sure we’re still competitive."

Asked if he was close to any deals, Dyche added: "We’re closer. You can think you’re close and you can think you’re there, but until the papers are signed and it’s all done then you’re not there.

"We have to keep working and be diligent in the market and we have to keep our ear to the ground for the shifting sands of what happens at football clubs."

The window shuts earlier this season, on the Thursday before the Premier League campaign begins, but it hasn't led to an increase in deals being done early.

"I think that’s the complexities of the market, not many deals get done quickly and if they do it’s normally for enormous amounts of money," Dyche said.

"It’s not just us. Sometimes Burnley fans say ‘we’re not doing this and we’re not doing that’. There’s loads of clubs out there trying to be diligent and trying to make the finances make sense.

"It’s not just us, that’s why the market is sometimes a bit slower, because everyone is trying to suss out situations to make sure they’re doing it in the right fashion."

A few quid here n there isnt right..
Surely not...
Unless its paid out in stages like every 6mths during the length of Hogans contract..

Transfer fees are always paid in instalments.

Undoubted knowledge? Or just the application of common sense and using my brain?

Absolutely no chance Dawson will be on £75k a week. I'd estimate half of that and especially now West Brom have been relegated.

how is anthony elding still in league one?

I think the £75k a week (which I've seen bandied about as well James) is Dawsons wage demands to sign for another team. He won't be on anywhere near than at West Brom.

Wasnt Dawson on £10k a week when he signed for WBA and he soon signed another doubling it..
Also didnt Dawson sign a new contract last summer putting him on £35/40k...

Cant see Burnley paying that..

Is anyone concerned, contract extensions and new signings, could have been made based on money coming through from Dawson being sold?

Hi James....... You can tell that you haven't been supporting the mighty Dale for that long with that assumption! Dunphy has probably got the Dawson money earmarked for a new Stena chairlift!

Nothing to be concerned about we shouldn't be planning to build a team on money that may or may not turn up through ex players being sold. Any money would be a bonus. And also may not be spent on the squad.

Just to add my random selection to support/follow/keep an eye out for Rochdale was during my school days. Ashamed to say it took till the 2-2 against Brighton at the Withdean to go and see them.

Surely they spend without even the slightest expectation of a cash injection.

Looks again like Burnley are now looking elsewhere if press reports about Ben Gibson at Middlesboro being targeted are correct.
Could be that Craig may have to do a bit of humble pie eating and accept that he will still be at WBA come the 10th of Aug
Wonder if he is in line to play on Saturday or will he be sat in the stand and risk another fine as again press reports would have us believe has happened over a refusal to be involved in pre season tour

Harry McGuire leaving Leicester could be the catylist that brings about the Dawson transfer - they are also rumoured to be interested in Craig as a possible replacement - and they will have the cash to spend more importantly. I can't see Dawson starting the season at West Brom - but then again they have been stubborn in the past with Berahino.

Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

For a guy like Hogan with his injury record there is no way Villa would pay everything up front, it will be staged over time surely with contingencies based on his staying fit.

It therefore stands to reason that the money owing to Dale would follow whatever Brentford get.

Season starts for WBA tomorrow - they are a club that don't like being held to ransom, just ask Peter Odemwingie or Saido Berahino; both of whom were left to sit around and sulk for some time before moving on. He needs to get this deal with Burnley done, because if they give up and look elsewhere he has done a number on himself.

As already mentioned, no transfer fees are ever paid in full up front.

West Brom are looking at bringing in an international defender on loan from Chelsea

Given he made 45 appearances for Hull on loan last season, he's not going to make up the numbers
