Hi, I did an interview with Gabriel Sutton previewing our season. Would be great if you could check it out and give me your opinions on my thoughts.

is Hendo a Dale legend?

Its a YES from me.

1. Gary Jones

2. Keith Hill

3. Little Lyndon ( you had to see him play and oh boy how he delivered )

4. Hendo ( Especially if he stays fit until the end of his contract ).

There are others who could have challenged Hendo and I could be persuaded he might drop to 5.

Who are everybody elses top 4 club legends ( Players / Managers ) ?

It would be an interesting read.

Depends on the criteria but Joe Thompson would have to be up there for obvious reasons

Don't forget Jack the Kitman!

I would put Steve Whitehall and Shaun Reid in there, too. Two players who delivered even during otherwise poor seasons.

To take up just a couple of points arising from this interesting preview:

" I know John Hill is an advocate for Henderson being a Rochdale legend and has said on many occasions how high up in our all time goalscorers he is, though i cannot find the tweets or figures, i imagine he’s not too far off the top! "

I think Hendo is now on 77 league goals for Dale, having passed Steve Whitehall's 74 last season. He's still a way behind an interwar player and the great Reg Jenkins. (Melancholy to reflect that only older fans will have seen Reg in action (and another favourite from the period, Stan Milburn) and that there are no video records.)

Second, the comment "I believe we need 2 pacy forwards". Probably about 90% of the fans of other LI sides believe exactly the same! But where are these speedy goalscorers? I've noticed hardly any suggestions on this forum of such players who might be available.

Maybe, not for the first time, Keith Hill will surprise us, but, post-Tenerife, I think he'll have decided what he'll expect from every player now on the books. As for goals, he might be anticipating 15 or so from Hendo and maybe 25 from the combined efforts of Andrew, Done, Inman and Wilbraham. Another 10 from the midfield - Camps, Rathbone, Thompson, Perkins, Cannon - and 10 from defenders - Delaney, Williams, McNulty, McGahey - at set pieces. Gillam, Morley, Rafferty and one or two of the newcomers could chip in to push the 'goals for' to 65 or so. If the number of goals conceded was the same as last season, 57, the goals difference would be +8, compared with last season's -8. (Last season Charlton went into the playoffs with a goal difference of +7.)

Of course, during the course of the coming season all these speculations will be blown away. But I still expect it will overwhelmingly be the current players, not some new signings, who will deliver (or fail to deliver) the points.

Whilst not players or managers I agree with Fred Ratcliffe in a different category.

You can throw Chris Dunphy into the mix if we include chairman.

Steve Taylor - Yes he would also be in the mix as well as Reg.

My top 5 legends from what i have seen (roughly 2000 onwards)
1- Keith Hill - nothing needs to said
2- Gary Jones--the guy was the clubs heartbeat
3- Hendo - only mccourt may have been a better techinal player for us and his goals speak for themselves
4- Neil Edwards - reason i wanted to be goalkeeper and great guy..always remember him saving us on games
5- Lambert/ Holt because they keep us afloat (finicially and in the league) and they were the best strike force weve had imo

More personal cult heroes than bona fide legends but the players I have most enjoyed watching in a Dale shirt have been Jason Peake, Paddy McCourt and Craig Dawson.

In terms of 'legendary' status, Hendo will always struggle to win over the opinion of certain fans for his temper and perceived attitude at times, but his contribution to this club in recent years should not be underestimated.

Tangled up in blue.

Club Legends as a fan from about 95 in no particular order and for different reasons

Keith Hill
Steve Whitehall
Jack the Kitman
Chris Dunphy
Gary Jones
Ian Henderson
Neil Edwards
Wayne Evans
Jason Peake

I feel like length of service is a big part of gaining the legend status.
