Regardless of the wrongs and rights of the red card, can anyone remember a Dale goalkeeper previously being sent-off at home?

I've looked through my records and can't see one, although there could be one before I started going in the 80s.

Away from home, I've got:

Mike Poole at Brentford, 6/12/75
Keith Welch at Hereford, 30/1/91
Neil Edwards at Southend, 3/3/01
Neil Edwards at Blackpool, 26/4/01
Jamie Jones at Gillingham, 18/4/15

Steve Conroy ?

I remember him getting involved in an incident with the away supporters where the matter was then referred to the Police and an investigation took place. I think he was responsible for throwing items back into the crowd and getting involved in a bit of argy-bargy with some fans.

Can't quite remember whether he was red-carded, or whether the matter was reported after the match.

That was against Crewe in the FA Cup in November 1983. He wasn't sent-off, but I think he was reported, like you say.

Jamie Jones? He doesn't sound/look even remotely familiar.

He was on loan from Preston.

More goalkeepers have been sent off in the last 30 years than ever before as the game and the rules have changed.
Before then the boot was very much on the other foot and they spent half their careers dodging kamikaze forwards rather than acting as sweepers.

Lee Todd did a good goalkeeper impression to get sent off once.

Ha, yes, against Scunthorpe, I think.

Ernie Cooksey did the same v Lincoln in another game.

I remember a few years ago at Chester that Matt Gilks should have been sent off for flattening their onrushing forward outside the box and getting away with it. It made last night's incident look very tame.

What about the non sending off of our Keeper at Gretna in the FA Cup?

That was as clear a sending off as you could wish to see, but somehow, our "pet" referee, Ken Redfearn, only gave a yellow card.

Gareth Gray. Lucky to stay on the field but 'Our Ken' was so far away from the incident, he gave him the benefit of the doubt.

I've got that on video somewhere and I think modelboydave has it on his YouTube channel, but I can't find it.

Anyone remember an incident (exchange) between Gilkes and a supporter in the Sandy about his kicking? Well, think his kicking had perhaps not been 'too' spot-on for a while but also think...

...he almost saw red? Anyone there who actually witnessed this?

Btw., thought a lot of Gilkes shot stopping 'was' more than spot-on on his day.

The culprit in the Gilks incident was sitting right next to me at the time. He is fairly regularly reminded of this.
Re Steve Conroy- the police interviewed him at half time and delayed the team coming out. IIRC he kicked out at some kid who was trying to nick his gloves at the
Pearl St end and Dad wasn't too happy

Gilks was a very good keeper as his career proved. #Rochdalesbiggestfans knew best though and couldn’t wait to abuse him on this board for any slight mistake. He’d have probably got a fairer ride if he went to a housewarming party...

Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

Have you really never had a keeper sent off at home before?

Puts Paddy Kenny's achievement of getting sent off twice at Gigg in one season in context that.

Yes, really.

It’s quite a rare event across all football.
