Read a good piece in the times this week from Mathew syed, he was basically saying that managers that shout and bollock their players reap their rewards when said players play with fear and do not try things on the pitch for fear of angering the manager . There then is a dearth of leaders on the pitch. As we dont seem to have any, is this Hills fault?
I don’t agree. I’m laissez faire with my staff at work and it pays off. I’m not a football manager granted but constant bollockings would piss me off. Wouldn’t impose that downwards.
I was always led to believe that some characters need a good bollocking and some need a sympathetic arm around their shoulder. The art of good management is in identifying which type is which and operating accordingly.
