I also watched some of that Utd side managed by Tommy Docherty they were good but flattered to deceive never could match Liverpool with only an FA cup to show for it Hill was electric but faded fast after a couple of years Did Docherty bring Coppell Hill and Stepney with Him? Docherty had an amazing managerial career spanning many years and almost as many clubs.

The part Denis Law played in Utd's fall from grace was special
First, he missed their European Cup Final win with an injury; the following year he took a penalty in the semi -final which would almost certainly have put them back into the final. It hit a post but he put the rebound into the net directly, instead of allowing a colleague the chance - no goal, no final
After the Best shenanigans and Charlton's retirement, he left for rivals City and scored the goal with a cheeky backheel that relegated Utd, in front of the fans at OT where he'd been crowned "The King". They bounced straight back with the team described earlier, but the one that went down wasn't a bad team, it was more a collective failure of spirit after a catologue of discord and hubris
