2-1 Fleetwood. Cross from the left and in fairness a brilliant strikers header into the bottom corner by Ched Evans. We look knackered & will be tough to get one back in the last 3 minutes + injury time [Post edited 21 Sep 2019 16:54]

Finished 2-1. Very similar to other games. Lots of passing but a lack of shots/attacking threat in the final third. Fleetwood play a similar game and at times lacked a finish but when you have a player of the quality of Evans in your team that is the difference Sanchez & Jim still playing some risky passes whereas some of the others are punting it when required. Ryan put in a very good shift when he came on and MJ had a very solid game other than 1 poor pass out from the back that put us under pressure. Ollie ran himself ragged & Norrington Davies did well against a tricky winger Difficult to pick MOM but I will go for MJ I think Alby is our only option to try and shake it up in our forward play. Hope he starts on Wednesday and gets some minutes under his belt in the next few weeks. If it doesn't work then I think we need to seriously look at the loan market in Jan

Fleetwood Match Thread on 17:06 - Sep 21 with 2278 views | Shun | Absolutely dreadful match and dreadful performance. There was such a dearth of quality on the pitch that both sides deserved to lose. We just deserved to lose a bit more. Rathbone aside, I’m genuinely struggling to think of a Dale player who played well. That sole league win I’ve seen all season at Tranmere seems a long, long time ago. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

And we got lucky with Blackpool hitting the post with virtually the last kick of the game. Cant blame the players having 1 eye on Wednesday but after the Utd game we need to get our heads back on the job in the league.

The early season promise has certainly started to fade quite badly Let's get the Utd game out of the way. Who knows how much of a distraction it's been? And then regroup with at least Alby coming back to provide some desperately-needed savvyness

Agree with most of that but can’t around MJW, he does ok in general play when at CH but he falls short defensively at crucial times. Allowed the cross to bounce past him for the first and was flat-footed for the second and players like Evans will punish that. Our lack of pace when breaking is proving an Achilles heel as the opposition are starting to work is out and letting us pass until we make a mistake, and today that happened a lot. We have so little threat in general play unless it’s a remarkable passing move as seen at Tranmere and Southend. And it’s no coincidence that those are the only games we’ve won. We need to find another way to play alongside the pass-pass-pass and at the moment we don’t appear to have that and there is no doubt other clubs have become fully aware of it.

Fleetwood Match Thread on 17:23 - Sep 21 with 2112 views | dawlishdale | This may upset some of the more loyal at all cost supporters but it needs saying..... 1) BBM's insistance on pass pass pass from defence, which looks lovely when winning, but is starting to grate . We won't come up against many teams as shit as Southend were, or as nervous as Tranmere were for their first hour in L1 for a while..When teams close us down anywhere on the park we are scuppered. I don't think we had a single shot on target after our goal in the eighth minute. 2) The lack of investment in a couple more attack minded players is already hurting us. I don't mean that we should have gone all gung-ho like that former club down the road, but for us to have 4 keepers on our books, yet hardly any goalscoring threat is criminal by the Board. Surely we have some funds available?? We have(in my opinion) given away( for peanuts) one of the brightest players ever to come through the academy in Adshead; we have had the Dawson windfall of almost £1m, ; we have had another substantial amount because Hogans team managed promotion, and now are likely to get itro £500k because of the Manure game. Financial prudence is all very well but what is happening to the money? FFS Get some attacking options in and stop fannying around at the back. Rant over.

Yep, and those goals we scored and games we won were against teams that gave us space to play. Against better teams or even just fit teams willing to press, it won't happen often.
Fleetwood Match Thread on 17:24 - Sep 21 with 2103 views | boromat | We're better than last season. And I feel like we've been in pretty much every game ignoring the one battering which is pretty good considering how open we're playing. Hopefully we can push to that next step and start picking up some 3 points. A draw away today would have been a great result a loss is what I expected. On to the big cup game now hopefully it can be a positive distraction from now and we come back to the league games with our tails up.

Now 30 points from 20 games since taking over 1.82 pts per game last season 1.11 points per game this season. 5th worst goal difference in the division. The only bit of light in the tunnel is that we have played 6 /9 games against sides in the top 10 places (3 points) compared with only 3 games vs the bottom 10 teams (7 points). The lack of a striker to play alongside Henderson has been self-evident now for 3 seasons and shows in the "goals for" column. I think we have been found out. .... again.

Lack of attacking options (or should I say the age of OAP strikeforce) as well BBM second half negative tactics, will cost us this season.

Totally agree, but also think we have too many strikers who are not up to the level required, leaving aside hendo who is out only real goal scorer, we have done, often injured or sub who has lost a yard of pace, pyke who is quick but scores at about the same ratio as Andrew, Andrew who is slow but big and scores at about the same ratio as pyke, alby who is a proven striker but is 40 and has been injured and Gillam who must have porn pictures of someone on a stag do to still be here, as he is turd! I have ignored youth team players as they deserve no criticism. In my opinion I would have hendo alby pyke as on loan and look at 1 more striker who is half decent and not constantly injured (clough) I said a few seasons back padrik amond would have done a great job for us, when he went on a free (I think) from Hartlepool, if we are so good with youth players why was Nathan Greenwood not loaned last year or a similar hungry striker from city, Liverpool, Everton etc. I agree a reduced squad is ok, but not when some are not capable of fulfilling what they are meant to do at a decent standard.

When only a few seasons back we used to score late on. Perhaps imagining it but it did seem like it happened on a fairly regular basis. Has our confidence taken a hammering sitting on leads and then conceding? It feels like that.

Fleetwood Match Thread on 18:06 - Sep 21 with 1837 views | KenBoon | I thought that was awful today and just about as bad as anything i've seen in the past few seasons. We don't have the players to successfully play this pass-pass game. It's nice when it comes off (Our goal was very good and built from the back) but it rarely happens. Had Fleetwood Town had better strikers they'd have scored a bag full. That second half was embarrassing. Henderson awful and rightly subbed... but we've got Calvin Andrew to replace him FFS. The subs for injuries didn't help, and O'Connell going off was a big blow but they're not an excuse. That was worse than last season's game at Fleetwood. It was nice to see Fleetwood Town revert to their shithousery once they got the lead. A horrible team with a horrible manager. Also quite why any sponsor would want to associate their name with Ched Evans is beyond me. There's little good to take away from this. Playing the way we do, with the players we have, will only lead to a very difficult season. Our plan a. cannot be this pass pass pass misplaced pass hoof game.
