I thought after the news recently it would be a good one. Plus there are often some interesting debates on here.

I supported it in the case of Julian assange. Will be interesting to see how it pans out with this American woman and if their government puts pressure on her. Will be out of order if they don’t considering trumps rhetoric on criminals crossing their southern border.

Yes of course it should, it's necessary for diplomacy to work effectively. Just like the law the rules shouldn't be changed because of one infringement.

Is it possible to say "diplomatic immunity" in anything but a South African accent?

It’s an out of date process that took the basic assumption that all diplomats are decent people. It has been used for years for politicians from corrupt countries to take massive amounts of cash into other countries, smuggle weapons, committ fraud etc. Also they can be issued to non-diplomats on the grounds they are assisting governments, embassies etc

The system needs an overhaul but it wont happen

Without it MI5 & MI6 would struggle to get operatives to take foreign assignments. Now wether those organisations are view as in the public interest or not is a different story.
If you are talking about eavesdropping on conversations of foreign governments is one thing. Penetrating terrorist and fundamentalist groups is another.
If you are throwing people into those situations to protect your country’s interest you have to give them a guaranteed exit card.
