Another coward kills 2 people and lost his pointless deluded life in the process.

The bystanders who took the guy on, particularly the last guy pulled away by the police officer, and stopped many more deaths deserve the highest honour we can offer as a country.

Proud of the quick response, proud of our emergency services, proud to live in a free country and proud to be British today.

RIP the 2 innocent people who died

Amen to that.

If ever there was anyone who deserves to be awarded a George Cross, that man who was dragged away from the 'bomber' is the one. Courage beyond belief. Nobody knew the suicide vest was a fake and I have no sympathy for the idiot who was wearing it. He got exactly what he deserved.

The Queens Gallantry Medal should be awarded to others who played a role in tackling and disarming the armed man.

Condolences to the family of the innocent victim who was murdered and I hope the injured people make full recoveries.

Proud to be British, as you say.

Has it been said what nationality the brave guy was? Maybe the attacker had mental health issues? Lots of answers to be disclosed.

The time to ask questions about someones state of mind isn't while he's trying to stab innocent people, whilst wearing what appeared to be some kind of vest.

I'm afraid the force he was met with was totally justifiable and very much needed.

Incredible bravery from those who tackled the terrorist. It seems the (fake) suicide vest was visible, so anybody approaching and restraining are genuine heroes.

The guy with the whale tusk is getting all the attention, but the guy with the fire extinguisher is unreal. He goes from spraying him to smashing him over the head with it once he’s on the ground. I have no qualms whatsoever with the armed police shooting the terrorist in the head. Fully deserved.

The news that one of the public heroes is a convicted murderer himself is difficult to get your head around. What he did yesterday is heroic, but what he did previously is horrific.

Many people there and thereabouts were convicted criminals, out on licence or parole, attending a large conference in Fishermans Hall, concerning the rehabilitation of offenders or some such similar thing.

It's strange how an incident such as this can change lives. A convicted child murderer attempts to stifle and disarm an armed man who to all intents and purposes was about to blow people up and who had already murdered two others.

The 'bomber'/murderer was (lawfully) shot dead, the child killer is likely to receive public acclamation for what he did in the most shocking circumstances at great risk to himself.

In other circumstances, there would be cries for an enquiry wanting to know why there was a child killer walking the streets of London. Maybe that should still be the case, but on that day, his life also changed forever.

Funny old world indeed.

Don't be silly," lessons will be learned", "this was unforeseeable". No one will be fired, no one will be demoted, there will be a 4-year inquiry, nothing will be resolved except it was no one's fault, and everyone will go back to long lunches, large pensions and a peerage at the end of it all for not rocking the boat.

and the family of the woman he murdered are furious about his current acclamation; perhaps it is an example of rehabilitation working, perhaps it shows our ambivalence to the use of violence, or does it suggest the automatic inference that bravery = morally good person may need more careful analysis?

Yes, all valid points which will inevitably all be thrashed out for different reasons and from different perspectives.

There are no ways to appease or satisfy all parties, but what happened cannot be denied, either from the point of view of the heroism or the terrorism.

Many column inches will be filled for months to come.

I'd like to follow on from your post 49th and take this one step further if i may - the courageous member of the public whom wrestled with the terrorist killer will be charged and convicted for assault, the police marksmen whom shot and killed him ( we now know that it was a fake bomb strapped to the terrorist killers body) )will be charged and convicted for murder, the terrorist killers family will be awarded millions of pounds in compensation as a result of a human rights lawsuit , the plain clothed police officer who disarmed him, well, someone might see some sense he'll probably get away with a caution having been arrested for possession of a bladed weapon ............

Sadly whilst much of what has been written to evoke your pithy comment may well be fanciful, it is the case that the fact that people espouse these views is, of itself, a sad indictment of the country we now live in.

It'll be fascinating to see how a certain bearded wannabe PM wriggles on this one. Some will say he's a friend of terrorists. Some may say he believes in rights for all and obligations for none. Some may say the suicide vest will be evidence of an unlawful shooting. Sanctions to follow.

Others say if you p!ss around in an unconvincing way with known enemies of the state, such as releasing them from prison, that weakness will be exploited, not admired.

He seems to be 'wiggling' by asking why the Tories scrapped the law introduced by a Labour Govt. which set indeterminate detention for “public protection” so he was let out early; why the Tories privatised and decimated the Probation Service so there was no one checking on him and why the Tories have cut every other public service which might have helped stop his radicalisation - but hey, let's not let facts get in the way of a good story!

Just another muslim terrorist. Oh sorry,am I still allowed to say that,I`m not being a racist am I? I saw on Youtube today that there`s an estimated 23,000 ISIS sympathisers walking freely around the streets of Britain today that the police know about. Really? The moment the Terrorist pulled on his Suicide vest, he sealed his own fate, likely death. He would have known that and been very comfortable with the outcome, it’s the reason he put the vest on in the first place. The fact it wasn’t a credible device is immaterial, who was going to sit down next to him and start dismantling it to check? The person wearing the suicide vest doesn’t have to be the one who detonates it, a third party in a different location could do that.

This isn’t a cowboy film, Authorised Firearms Officers aren’t trained to start winging people by shooting them in the leg or the arm, when they discharge their weapon in a public place/ city centre they have to think about the ‘ back stop’...if the bullet misses, what and who will it hit before it stops? That decision has to be made in a split second. So AFOs are trained to stop the target and that means aiming for the largest mass, the solar plexis/ chest area which contains all the major organs. It usually results in death and almost certainly stops the target.

Injuring the target is not a consideration because he could still detonate the vest (if credible) and the officer only took the decision in the first place because their was a imminent threat to life, the aim is to eliminate the threat. It seems as though the terrorist received a double tap to the head, that would have been done in order to avoid disturbing the explosives in the vest, the vest will also be a vital piece of evidence that needs preserving for forensic examination. Firearms Officers are volunteers who get paid the same salary as the Bobby walking the street, obviously they are highly trained. It sounds cold and calculated by the Police but there is no other way. If a firearms officer ever issues a warning to you, do as you are told, they are armed for a reason.

The real hero wasn’t the cop, he was just doing his job. The civilians are the ones who deserve the accolades they did a brilliant job, i’ve never bought into the advice of running away from the danger, if you are a grown fella in reasonable heath then i think you have to have a go, it’s different for the woman/kids/elderly.

Yes, the Tories changed a law introduced by Labour, the law which provided for automatic release at the halfway stage of a sentence - which is why Khan was on the streets, because the change to the law came after he was sentenced in 2012 and the law requires that provisions which apply at the time of sentencing are applied

Yvette Cooper tried to make political capital out of this shocking loss of life yesterday by demanding to know why he was on the streets, until Priti Patel pointed out it was Cooper's Labour government which introduced that law. Cooper has been uncharacteristically quiet since

He was sentenced in 2012 to an indeterminate detention for “public protection”- which Party were in Government then? His tariff was changed in 2013 - which Party were in Government then? He was released on licence in 2018 - which Party were in Government then? Since 2010 there have been cuts to every part of the criminal justice system - which Party has been in Government since then? It was Boris Johnson who first made political capital in responding to the attack by claiming he had always opposed early release for prisoners despite having been warned in 2016 by the former chief prosecutor, Nazir Afzal of the lack of resources for effective deradicalisation.
