League wins away v the big boys? 08:37 - Feb 11 with 2401 viewsaleanddale

Southampton 0-2 Dale

Charlton 0-1 Dale

Can this seasons double v Bolton count as big?

Is that it?

I have been to Sheffield United and Wednesday for league games and never seen us win.

Other big clubs have dropped to our level for a season or two but away wins seem to be like hens teeth.

Hope we carry on the improvement of late and we can add another away win to the list come 21.35.

depends on how you define big.

Won league games at Burnley Coventry, Preston, Swansea etc all after tney have been in the top division in recent past.

And of course the two biggest clubs of all ....that former club t’other side of Heywood and that lot from Sheepfoot lane.

Very much depends on how we define 'big'

It's always going to be subjective, but a starting point might include a ground capacity in excess of 30000 and more than one season in the top flight within the previous five years

By those criteria, our only 'big' away win would be v Southampton, 2010

Quick check from memory:

We've beaten Aston Villa*, Nottm Forest and Leeds, and drawn with Man U, Spurs and Newcastle

* before they won their trophy

Edit: most of those at home, of course

What constitutes a big club is always a good discussion ground capacity or more importantly attendances is a big part of the equation. There are plenty of clubs with grounds under 30000 that I would consider big clubs, too many to list but West Brom Norwich Fulham and Palace are all under 30000. It is as you say all relative.

This is not the time for bickering.
