I think the season will be scrapped and we will have to start again hopefully at the end of August.

Tough for those who would have been promoted and a stroke of good fortune for those who would have been relegated.

Some shifting to be done to fill the bury space they created by their own incompetence. I would like to see Barrow lifted into League 2 and Crewe or Swindon promoted to the 3rd tier so we can get back to 24 teams in each of the leagues.

No-body can complain if we get back to any footy by August I think that will be a good result.

Will Bolton re-start on minus 12 points if we simply go again from scratch ??

Should they start on minus 12 ? If they don't, have they even undergone their imposed punishment for the misdemeanours of the past ? Get out of Jail free !!

There is also a real possibility that some clubs won't even survive until August. There could even be a re-structuring of the Leagues to compensate for the inevitable changes ahead.

There’s also the possibility of clubs taking the EFL to court if the league is scrapped. Peterborough’s chairman has threatened this already.

So will cancelling this season include removing any trophies or prize money awarded so far? I can't see any other fair way of completing the season apart from playing it out as and when the situation dictates it. Then work out how to deal with next season.

WBA, Leeds and Forest are already gearing up for legal action should they be denied promotion and the £200m payday that ensues.
How would the top 4 and the lucrative champions league places be decided? Suggestions that it could be based on the final placings of last season, which no doubt delights and disappoints those at the top.
The broadcasters will want their money, £750m, back as they don't pay for what they don't get. Completing a season removes this issue.

Its whether it can be squeezed in but the any recommencement of the current season will have to involve a number of weeks for a pre-season before competitive football begins.

We need a Duckworth Lewis method for football.

I think these clubs will find (as others have been warned in the past) that member clubs of the FL are forbidden from taking the FL to court. That is a condition of their membership and they will have to resign from the League if they wish to pursue the FL through the courts.

How many will risk doing that ?

With no summer internationals and the potential legal and moral pitfalls of voiding this season or finishing it early why not just run the season to its climax in the summer ? Start next season a bit later.
If the predictions of this shitshow hitting a peak within 4-6 weeks we should be over the worse of it by May?

You are right should the season end now there is no fair way of doing this and whatever the outcome not everybody will be happy but I repeat should the season end now, even that is not certain, the only sensible decision would be to let the league table stand as it is. There have been 30 games in the premier league, 37 games in the championship played, in divs 1 and 2 up to 37 games played more than enough to form an accurate leauge table and more than enough to form a season and for clubs to get out of a relegation position, likewise for clubs to get into a promotion and champion position. Playoffs games head to head could be take place between clubs that cannot be easily separated before next season.

What about teams like Charlton who dropped into the relegation place for the first time in ages on the last game played, it's fair to relegate them,or teams who've 2/3 games in hand how is that a fair reflection of their season as Tranmere recently showed the form book can get turned upside down in the space of them 2/3 games?

Life is not fair nothing is fair. I did not say everybody will be happy its impossible to please everybody. Charlton are not in a relegation spot because of their last result it was their performances over 37 games that has resulted in them being in 21st place. Teams with games in hand can be allotted points pro rata for home games and pro rata for away games depending whether the games in hand are home or away. In the case of Tranmere form over the last 12 games or alternately since the Jan transfer window closed could be a factor in the equation but why complicate it more than need be. Would it be fair to deny Liverpool being champions or Leeds WBA and Fulham promotion likewise the teams in Div 1 and 2 whose form over the vast majority of the season see them at he top of their respective divisions.

Or just finish the season as and when. Saying 'life is not fair nothing is fair' is a bit of a cop out when there is a clear fair way of finishing the season by just playing all the games when it's possible

No simple solutions..extending season runs into problem of contracts expiring. Cannot just unilaterally extend all contracts.

All the indicators coming from EFL clubs is that they need the income whenever the games can be played, and are committed to finishing the season

Like you, i'm not sure what point speculation which suggests otherwise is intended to achieve

Creating temporary contracts is already being discussed

That’s good at least.

The contract issue thing is a major issue, the only fair way to deal with it is to extend all players contracts until season is completed, and a few weeks after. Delay the transfer window until contracts end, sure we will be stuck with Calvin et al but with efl support it would’ve fair.

No solution will be 100% agreed with, players will return from injury etc but what other fair option is there?

Although contracts run until the end of June, players actually get paid until end of July, this is a severance payment agreed by club and players (well it was a couple of years ago) so this could help if season is extendded

From the BBC.,Seems like Dale may get additional funding from an additional £ 1 milllion pot.

Under the terms of the relief fund, Championship clubs will receive their remaining £800,000 award payment from the Premier League on Thursday. In addition, they will be able to apply for a £584,000 interest-free loan.

For League One clubs the figures are £250,000 and £183,000, and for League Two sides they are £164,000 and £120,000.

An additional £1m from the EFL Futures pot, a scheme which rewards clubs for giving opportunities to home-grown young players, will be allocated now on a pro-rata basis.

With Boris now indicating that we may find that we are coming 'off the peak' at the end of June, anybody now thinking we are going to be self isolating/restricting social gatherings, until end of summer? I just can't see any chance of football in May. It took China 4 months from the start of the problem to see a reduction in new cases.

I dread a pools panel approach as we may find ourselves in Tranmere's current table spot. Cancelling the season would seem the right approach but clubs will have a real problem surviving summer as they will have budgeted to receive these so called advanced payments on top of the matchday income. It just delays a gaping hole in the accounts. Lets hope the Chancellor comes up with more support tomorrow for all businesses and individuals.

I'm completely at a loss as to why "cancelling the season would seem the right approach" ?

Every indication is that all footballing bodies (clubs & governing bodies) will, with some creative thinking, go to the nth degree to get 2019/20 completed before we start 2020/21
