Bennett would be an expensive squad player for me.

Poll: What are we more excited for?

It’s very much a buyers market now. I can see players (particularly if local) signing for a grand a week, even if they are used to double or more than that.

We have the opportunity to approach players and offer a deal, at a price we think is fair, and play hardball, if you don’t like the deal, ok, we have plenty of others we are talking to.

Plenty of players have been released that would add or improve to our squad or team, I guess much will come down to how proactive we are early and level of funds allowed!

It’s great saying we can offer new signings a smaller wage, but the key thing we are forgetting where is our income coming from to offer contracts? I know the Dawson money is coming this summer but that won’t last long

Good question.

Under Dunphy's chairmanship, the club acquired on- and off-field assets to the tune of around £12 million.

Off the field, they acquired the stadium and pub at a manageable repayment rate.

On the field, they worked on a three-year cycle model of player sales (be that Academy graduates or repaired broken toys). Within that three-year cycle there was an acceptance that there may be a loss but that, at the end of it, the club had to at least break even.

For the cycle to work, there had to be careful management of player progression and their sale date.

And the cycle did work. However, even with all of this carefully managed - and it was, which is why we are constantly referred to as a well-run lower league football club - we still needed outside investment according to Dunphy.

Now he has gone, it does look as if this model has been abandoned with the initial fire sale of our 'liquid assets' . The current board seem to have a more short-term survival plan for the club, but this too will require investment. Now we have sold Matheson, and Henderson is out of contract, what liquid assets do we have currently? We cannot rely on a good cup run every season.

We need forecast money from somewhere.

Can understand the current mind set considering the big losses in 2019 accounts, I think once that gets sorted out properly then we will revert back to the previous mindset

If this were the end of a normal season, clubs at top end L1 or lower Championship might be looking at Eoghan O'Connell and Olly Rathbone, in deals similar to that which took Andy Cannon to Portsmouth.

Teams with a more short term specific requirement in a particular position might be looking at McShane, Lund or Ryan.

Aaron Morley at his best could also be worth money, but needs to show it consistently.

If young Baah and whichever of Lynch and Wade.end up in goal can establish themselves and play well then someone could come in for them. Possibly.

Can't see anyone paying a fee for Done, Dooley, Keohane or McNulty

We have some good youngsters who may possibly progress to the top. Discounting the three first year pros who are out of contract, I think half-a-dozen youth players made first team appearances last year. One or more of these could emulate such as Jamie Allen or Andy Cannon in becoming regulars for us and eventually moving for a fee.

But it's not a normal end of season...

I would have Ellison at dale in a shot, maybe on a 1 year and on sensible money.

Best years behind him but the sort of player we have lacked!

An interesting perspective, but not for me. In a team crying out for pace I don't think we need a 41 year old wide player. Especially one not offer a new deal by a team in the lower reaches of League Two.

I would say he has been an excellent servant to the football league and is a great character. I had a really good conversation with him after the Joe Thompson testimonial game and he was really engaging, as was Marvin Morgan. Both players who would have been good additions in our League Two days.

He might do eventually, but I think he still needs a season in League One to get more experience.

Hamilton would be a great signing and I think we've got a fair chance of signing him. His footballing CV for the last 12 months will hardly catch the eye of most clubs and I think he needs regular football. Strikes me as the perfect 100 game player for us- if that model still exists.

Putting 2 and 2 together here but I see Danny Whitehall has left Maidenhead in search of League football. Read an interview which claimed before COVID a few League 1 and 2 clubs were looking at him, after he had a fairly decent season in the Conference following a stint in the US. Given his connections here, wonder if we were one of them.

Use some of the money we've just saved on Henderson to sign Sam Winnall up. He's being released by Sheff Weds.

Unless that is a tongue in cheek comment(sorry it is late here ,way past bedtime) or he is prepared to take a massive pay cut there is absolutely zippo zilch chance of that happening

I'm not sure about that. Henderson's been one of the best strikers in League One for the past 5 or 6 seasons and will rightly command a big wage. Winnall's been a bit-part player in The Championship for the past 4 seasons, failing to impress and being far from a regular.

Championship wages are well known for being extremely high. Believe me, even players at clubs like Wigan would earn figures that would make your eyes water.
