Brian was A player of endeavour and determination. His skilful brother Jimmy was of maverick style and panache and was one of the most enjoyable players to watch. Should have had more england caps but alas the likes of Carlton Palmer were always in front.

He had retired prior to Carlton Palmer starting to play and had been retired for over 7 years prior to Carlton getting his first England cap. He’s 19 years older than Carlton Palmer!
Never suggested Carlton Palmer displaced Jimmy or even played at the same time, merely an acknowledgement that sometimes the mercurial skill is not fully appreciated over and above toil. The likes of Alan Hudson, Frank Worthington, Tony Currie, Stan Bowles were all overlooked too frequently.

Didn't you suggest Palmer was in front of Brian, not Jimmy?

Ok, but is below true? Brazilian international Gabriel Jesus doesn’t get enough game time at Man City but alas the likes of Wayne Biggins were always in front.

Apologies, I was being a bit facetious there. For every Stan Bowles or Matt Le Tissier there is a John Barnes or Chris Waddle. Or a Gasgoine. Supremely gifted maverick footballers who do go on to get many caps for England (to varying degrees of success). Whilst I’d agree that Palmer certainly wasn’t international quality, Greenhoff would’ve been up against the likes of Colin Bell and Gerry Francis. Listening to my father, he never classed these players as lacking in skill.
Many happy memories of Brian...remember him scoring last minute equaliser V Chelsea at Old Trafford 1973?
The Docs team were great to see..Stepney Forsyth Houston Greenhoff Holton Buchan...i thought they were unbeatable..Div 2 was a blast...and then 1977 Fa Cup final...

Loved to see Frank Worthington play against us at the twilight of his career I think for Preston just took the p out of us and was a joy to watch.
Hey Frenzied, You forgot the exciting lot up front, Coppell, McCari, Gordon Hill (Merlin) Pearson, Jimmy Greenhoff, Sammy Mac. Unbeatable feast of extravaganza
Saw Frank Worthington tear the Hammers apart in a third round cup match one Saturday arvo. West Ham were the holders from memory but couldn`t keep Frank from scoring a hat trick in a 4-2 demolition. Great player who should`ve gone to Liverpool, but failed a medical.
The story goes that Frank failed his medical at Liverpool due to his having high blood pressure. What the officials at Anfield didn't know was that, Frank being Frank, he'd just flown back from seven days in Magaluf!

Anybody only used to the beach wear that pass for football shorts today will have been surprised how short the shorts were back in the old days. I'd have hated to play in the modern style of shorts that flap around your knees. We used to laugh at old photos of the likes of Stanley Mathews in the old baggy shorts. Who'd have thought they would make a come back !
