Raising income for next season 11:12 - Jan 10 with 2427 viewsDalenet

So with the Chief Medical Officer saying we are likely to need to maintain social distancing through next winter it increasingly doesn't look like our normal Spotland experience will be back next season either. If we are lucky we might be allowed 2000 fans at COA

So how does the club plan for this and what income ideas should the club adopt? They are going to need to be very creative to find the money to keep us going for another season. What would you be prepared to stump up for?

There’s possibly some value in going old school and raising money for specific things. Whether that be equipment or a player, a totaliser where fans can see where their money is going may have a better response rather than spending whatever to add to the general pot and the world carrying on turning with no real awareness of the effects of contributing.

Could be way off with that suggestion but it needs to be something that attracts attention. What do the club need money for? Tell fans, say an amount, see what happens.

Just a thought was he saying that to encourage us to follow the guidelines now.

Assuming there is a good roll out of the vaccine, and even with social distancing, I would hope Rochdale would be at the level when previously 4,000 was an allowable number. Means we would miss the "bumper" crowds such as Sunderland, but as there will still be a number of fans too nervous to come back until the risk of COVID is similar to Flu, that should be more than enough

Doesn't stop us doing as you suggest though and start looking to generate revenue streams. The pent up need of people wanting to get back out and about may be something we want to tap into. Sadly a lot of activities out there may have gone bust by the time restrictions lift, and without wanting to sound mercenary, we may want to attract those looking for alternatives. This would also include people who believe outdoor activities are lower risk than indoor activities which they may have previously been doing. A quick win would be simple advertising and information desks around the town centre once we can announce fixtures. More flexibility on ticket options & pricing, school offers etc. All been tried before but post lockdown people may be more receptive to just getting out and doing something

What about players doing personalised messages, for a fee like some celebrities do?

If it is limited to 2000 hopefully we would still get a bit of a top up through iFollow still to compensate some of the away support.

I think some of the things the club have put in place like the online half time draw tickets have been pretty good it's just going to be challenging to keep them going and with good numbers. I don't know if it's possible but if we do go to limited fans being able to both purchase at the game in person and online could be a good idea.

Interesting questions raised, and not too dissimilar to the theme of the recent webcast when we were asked "What can the club do for you?"

I would suggest that the recent podcast featuring our first ever Chief Executive is listened to and lessons learned from it. The position the club finds itself in now is not so different to how Francis found it when he took over. External influences, of course, now unprecedented.

I would be tempted to co-opt him onto the board, assuming he is available and willing.

I think people would - especially birthday messages

I had written to the club to suggest that they offer the fans the chance to sponsor games digitally to celebrate milestone birthdays/family anniversaries etc but they didn't respond. Must be worth a grand a game if they allowed up to 4 families to sponsor per game with a souvenir sent on as a memento.

I wonder if the share issue can be revisited, but make them sensibly priced to attract fans rather than the big corporate investor this time around?

I believe the government has made provision in company law for annual and emergency meetings to take place virtually.

Has anything been said since about when the postponed EGM/AGM will happen? Presumably there is still a requirement for an AGM at some stage.

I've not heard anything.

Perhaps we could ask the Trust to ask the question?

Would like to think they already have as they had an EGM planned themselves ahead of the club’s before the initial lockdown.

Hopefully they’ll update in the minutes of the their next meeting/newsletter.

Brilliant initiative by Marine - as fans can't attend they sold 25k "virtual tickets". Didn't say how much for but bought by fans all over the world apparently. Good luck to them. If only we were still in it.

Seeing Lineker in a makeshift commentary spot talking about a giant-killing versus Spurs ....... memories. Sigh

Virtual tickets once they could no longer let fans attend... then crowds turn out anyway. Quite why police didn’t move them all on is hard to establish.

There seem to be quite a lot of folk at these Cup ties on TV......surely they are not all "officials"

So much for social distancing......Hancock and Pretty Petal will be after that lot on the way home.

It’s a good point about the “officials” that are present at games too. Can somebody say why directors have to be present in the ground, especially those travelling with the away club? They can watch online easily enough. Same would go for the majority of the media/press as online press conferences can be arranged - as we saw happened yesterday with those on the club accounts.

I thought about producing certificates for 10 shares on a specially produced commemorative certificate at say £60 each with an issue of maybe 500 numbered certificates, maybe signed by the squad.. Don't we celebrate 100 years since we joined Division 3 North this year?
This would raise £30k less the cost of design, print and add 30,000 new shares but in 10 share blocks.(£6 a share). so a further dilution but vested with 500 people.

Well done Marine FC. They sold 30,600 virtual £10 tickets, took £80k in FA cup prize money and £75k in TV money. They appear to have taken more this season than many League One and Two clubs will do. They had reported an expected loss this year of £100k so this has set them up for a few seasons.

So the challenge to Dale - what can we do to get 30,000 locals (and beyond) to buy something for a tenner.

Fire up the De Lorean, pray for a thunderstorm or an upgraded flux capacitor, head back to 6/11/20 and tell the players they are going to be humiliated by non-league Stockport tomorrow. Then hope they are sufficiently fired up to actually turn up this time. Then we might be anticipating a home tie against the Hammers tonight and have a chance at stashing some cash. It's about as likely to happen as 30k folk giving Dale a tenner.

BFC only raised about 12/- 6d + a few buttons and 10 Zlotys as a benchmark and they are professional bucket shakers.
