Proxies for tonight 16:02 - Jun 1 with 1153 viewsjudd

If you have appointed a proxy for tonight, you should have received the following email from the club:

Hi All,

We have had some questions in relation to the above over the weekend. You are being contacted as you have appointed a Proxy for the four meetings this evening, but have also registered to attend on Zoom.

While we are allowing the above scenario on this occasion, it should be noted that the purpose of this attendance should be to observe only. By appointing a Proxy, the Proxy has the right to speak and vote on your behalf at all four meetings. While you may still choose to speak and/or vote during this evenings proceedings, you must be aware that by choosing to speak and/or vote, the Proxy's right to speak on your behalf will be abrogated, and any votes tendered by the Proxy on your behalf must be rejected.

If you require any additional information on this, please feel free to get back in touch

For once, they are right with that.

From the proxy form:
If you wish your proxy to speak on your behalf at the meeting you will need to appoint your own choice of proxy (not the Chair) and give your instructions directly to them.

By threatening abrogation they're saying they they don't want your vote to count if you have appointed a proxy but then undermine that position by speaking.

If you have appointed a proxy then its important that you let that proxy speak for you this evening.

Quite right. Its important to know that you are at the meeting as an observer only.

It reads as a desperate note - the club will know the number of proxy votes now which sets the scene for those voting in person.

Reading between the lines, the proxy votes mean it is not plain sailing for the Board.

If you are attending and have given a proxy vote to someone (such as the Trust) do NOT let the Board abrogate your vote by speaking.
