Leaving 2 players forward when defending corners. 19:47 - Oct 26 with 1910 viewsdingdangblue

What's the worst that can happen? Its got to be more use than having Kelly,Cashman or Odoh back defending. At least the opposition will have to leave 2 players back maybe even 3. Let's face it bringing back everyone and crowding the box hasn't worked for us for a long time. I'm sure some top coach has come up with statistical evidence why it's done but it ain't working for us.

Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

BBM was obsessed with it too, never understood bringing everyone back for an opposition corner, the best scenario you win the first ball, then the ball just keeps coming back at you as there's no outlet. I think it's in these new fancy coaching courses they all go on now and try to reinvent the wheel.

(During the war) we always got told to leave at least 1 player, even 2 near the halfway line they then have to keep 2/3 defenders back also.

This was an issue during Keith Hill's worst days as well. Leaving Odoh or Cashman up to chase on from slower League 2 defenders is a no brainer.

In KHs early days as manager, he occasionally used to leave 2 players up the field, wide out on each wing, the first time he did it the attacking side had no idea what to make of it and seemed to be arguing about who should drop back

Another plus is with less players crowding the box your goalkeeper has a better chance of actually dealing with the corner.

That's why this debate has sprung up again, due to events on Saturday, although it's been visited before of course

Having at least one player staying upfield would be a simple and visible sign that our problems with corners is being addressed, which is the minimum required

Apologies, accidental mark down. Agree, and would add that less crowding makes it easier for specific defenders to be given a specific area to attack the ball that is "beyond the keepers reach". One covers short of front post, one between the posts, one deep. Simplified, I know, but worked for me a (lot) lower level.

I agree with all the above but what happens when, as on Saturday, your opponents are losing in the final minute of normal time and throw everyone bar the keeper up for a corner in desperation?
Who blinks first?
You, when you see unmarked bodies in the box, or them when you keep two players on halfway?
If we’d left two players stood on halfway last weekend for that corner and they’d scored because they had numerical superiority in our penalty area there would have been hell on.

Our goal mouth is always completely crowded when the ball goes in as well. Nobody has space to attack the ball.

Most premier league teams seem to bring everybody back as well

Possession with progression.
