Not for me. Great player, but too injury prone. The past few seasons with the likes of McShane, McLoughlin etc have highlighted the folly of chasing players with the hope they will suddenly become relatively injury free. |  | | |

Dale are helping with is rehab so i wouldnt be surprised if Downing as to prove his fitness during preseason before a decision is made.....
There are better options and hopefully Dale are nail one or two to a contract....... |  |

Agree with most in this. I think especially if you take RS on his word that we'll have a smaller squad with better quality then there's no places for taking risks on injury prone players. | |

I would probably accept 24 games out of him if the were two lots of a dozen consecutive games. But the prospect of no more than 4 or 5 games between injury spell just ends up destabilising the defence. Shame but to much of a risk. | | | |

There is always that nagging thought that perhaps he could stay injury free and fit for a good while or better.....but we have seen good players break down all too often.

Downing is quality and would be playing at the top end of League One if he could stay fit. But he can’t. We need to get value from the top earners, unfortunately I don’t think we’d get that with Downing’s injury record. |  | | |
