No cup run money / Dale Trust supporters meeting 17:17 - Oct 14 with 14503 views442Dale

With a potentially crucial revenue stream now not able to be exploited, planning for possible future scenarios takes on even more importance as time continues to tick by. For reference, again, supporters showed real interest at the fans meeting with the Trust on the 25th August in looking at what role we can all play, and a further meeting was requested that evening with it being stressed how important it was to not let too much time pass - before the Halifax and Barnet games were two suggestions (the 2nd and 16th of September).

Last Sunday the following was posted on this messageboard:
Specific details about the opportunities for volunteers are due to be released by the end of this week.

On the other subjects raised in this thread it is crucial the fans meeting the Trust have planned is confirmed as soon as possible. The lack of clarity around our current situation is becoming an obvious problem.
The importance of this fans meeting was established in the Trust newsletter released at the start of October:
https://www.daletrust.co.uk/20

<<“ We have a fans meeting planned for later this month. It is currently booked in for the morning of the Oldham game. However, given the issues that we faced when we held a meeting ahead of the Bromley game, we are looking at what will be the best way of hosting that event. It is important that such a meeting is held ahead of our meeting with the Directors a few days later, but with a larger crowd expected for this game, it may be counter productive. We will update members sooner rather than later with respect to this.”>>

So, since that post on the 8th and then noting that the newsletter came out at the start of the month, has anyone heard anything about the already scheduled fans meeting? Especially as we were expecting to hear “sooner rather than later”. Or any updates from the volunteer meeting for that matter.

Results should never impact delaying achievable work on the future of the football club, whether it’s when we were winning, or even today. But everyone knows how going out of the cup will be a definite financial blow.

How much cash have we realistically missed out on? We are rarely a TV game in the first round. A tie that is expected to have a 'large' crowd will have a corresponding police/ security bill.

A fair point, James. And you’d hope that it won’t have any impact.

But it might. Problem is, none of us really know where we stand.

James - just one more game would bring cash in that we don't have. Plus pride, plus confidence, plus extra sponsorhsip. The FA Cup has saved many a club in the past. Just todays winnings would have helped a bit. I wouldn't care if we were bobbling along financially - but the Chairman told us Liquidation was a real possibility without more funding. We need the odd £50k or £100k desperately. Chairmen of our club for the past 25 years have told us a cup run is the difference between heavy losses or break even.

Jesus wept.

Everyone knows that a decent Cup run can make a small fortune for skint Clubs like our lot even after inevitable costs, besides, it gets the Club prestige and the fans a bit of PRIDE. Exactly what we need at this time.Hereford pocket £9000 plus for their win today, we get sweet FA exit!

But that's a cup run though, there are costs putting on additional games sponsorship will only be really lucrative if we get on the box.

What’s most irritating is that the Chairman will at some point ‘blame’ the lack of cup run for our worsening financial position. He’ll say it as if it’s something he has no control over. Yet he appointed McNulty, he appointed the consultants to advise him, he failed to get across the need to win home games and to adopt never say die attacking football which fans can get behind.

The club is in steady progressive decline on and off the pitch because of the lack of leadership at the board. The Trust appears paralysed asphyxiated almost by the situation. I take my hat off to 442 for relentlessly trying to hold the Trust leadership to account.

A full Trust members meeting needs to be set up, at a time when people can attend. The status quo now has to be challenged.

That's simply not true, James

The reality is, before today we had a chance of income generation via the cup, now we have none. There's just no hiding that stark fact

The chances of getting on the box improve as a Cup run develops obviously as do the winnings per round. There are other incomes streams from shirt sponsorship ( sleeves/ back of shirt) and perimeter advertising etc. even before the paying public hitch up. I've witnessed many superb Cup ties at San Spotty when the place has been really rocking......this year, it's gone sadly.

How long ago were we a League 1 Club 🤷‍♂️..Congratulations to Hereford.. they won & end of…

How fookin low can we sink now….

Put the ground on Barton & Kendal & let’s have done with it…

Pay the loan against the ground off & end the misery, not prolong it…

We lost loads to "non league" (that's us now) back in 70/80s. Today is no disgrace, and we soldier on, but an increasingly less attractive proposition to anyone with solid ownership ambitions

We lost to a team one division below us.

In 2010, six months after winning promotion, we lost to FC United of the Northern Premier League. A team four divisions below us.

Today was a really bad result, mainly because of the implications on possible income, not so much who we lost to.

The FCUM result was a cup shock. This wasn’t a shock or even a mild surprise because we played today characteristically as we do nowadays. It’s garbage, boring and is not entertainment of any sort, but worst of all, there’s no tangible desire to win, no fight.

Failure has become embedded at board and accepted at management / team level and many fans also easily accept failure. “Well it’s where we are, what can you do?”

....and do you have anybody in mind who would be prepared to step in & take over the role of Chairman? No-one in their right mind would want that job at the moment. I'm pretty sure that Simon would gladly hand over the reins and all the stress & expense it has brought to him & his family in an instant.

What’s been stated that would indicate that would happen in “an instant” for you to be pretty sure? Anyway, don’t really understand why it has to be about any particular person involved at Spotland, but this has been said before. It’s about improving the football club and planning better for the future.

There’s little argument that the current state of uncertainty is not helping anyone. Least of all McNulty and the team.

We can only look to influence the things we can control, right now more is required in certain areas as detailed in this thread.

It's not going to be held on Saturday.

I have asked for an alternative date to be announced. Provisionally, Thursday 19th October has been suggested but other than that I know nothing.

A sad day today. I have just watched the FA Cup !st Round draw. Saddened to see our name not coming out. Still hurting badly from watching that disappointing display yesterday. The FA Cup always has and still does have that magic for me,

Would like to reiterate the thanks for the update.

It is becoming a real concern that the Trust are unable to quickly establish the dates of meetings without further prompting. Especially when their own newsletter is telling members this is what will happen. There were 19 days between the announcement that the timing of the fans meeting would be looked at and the Oldham game when it was planned for. 13 days later there is still nothing in place. #soonerratherthanlater

When the meeting is arranged, please can all supporters who are able attend do their best to do so. There is no hyperbole involved when saying that it is vitally important that fans have their say and can work in conjunction with the Trust for the good of our football club.

To answer your question. No - nor does Simon. One of the reasons for this is because of his ‘business strategy’ - under his leadership the value of RAFC continues to fall. So a person in their right mind, watching will be a. waiting to see how low the price will go, and b. how desperate Simon gets when he sees that the price he’ll get for his shares gets to his bottom line. We’re being kept in the dark by the board, and also it seems the leadership of the trust, I expect that will continue until we reach point a. or b. above, we will then get some sort of announcement: New buyer? Administration then new buyer more likely. History tells us it gets worse before it gets better eg Wigan, Southend, Scunthorpe etc etc.. The problem is the longer it goes on the lower the value and the worse the deal becomes, the less there is left.

If you want to sit back and watch that, then fine.

Individuals have offered help, but these are reportedly politely declined. On precise grounds I know not.

Instead we need collective action. The trust leadership are, in my view, conflicted by the board seat. I would vote to resign the post as a first step to establishing an independent trust with a mission to protect the future of our club. The trust need to be providing facts to members before asking for votes.

An as yet unpublicised provisional date set for a meeting in four days time, a good way to make sure you get a poor turnout I’d suggest. The tune needs to change.
