Interesting that Scunthorpe play in the FA Cup tomorrow away to Blackpool. We should be rested more perhaps giving us an edge.

Waterlogged pitch.
Something dramatic will have to happen and quickly.. just cannot have the prospect of 4 months worth of games called off whenever it rains.

They've posted a pic on Facebook with a big puddle on the pitch. It's not rained hardly since 10 (I've been told). How has it passed inspection at 10 with a puddle on the pitch? How are puddles forming underneath the protective (non protective) covers? They said they were working on the problem areas? In 4 hours they've not mopped/soaked up a massive puddle?
Then there is the 2 statements. This morning's said they couldn't call the game off on the strength of the weather forecast and this afternoon's statement says they've called if off because of the weather forecast? [Post edited 4 Nov 15:17]

Just when you're hoping for a positive outcome, it all goes wrong. This really does flag up problems that need sorting by the club very quickly. I have no idea what the solutions are.
From the club's own update yesterday, the covers went down on Sunday. Yes, we've had rain most days recently, but the only rainfall of any note fell early Saturday morning and even that amounted to less than half an inch. Any other rain with the covers down has been mostly light with the odd heavy burst blowing through pretty quickly. Certainly not enough to escape from the covers onto the pitch.
In effect we've had a bit of rain 3 1/2 days prior to a match, and not managed to get it on. How does that work for the next 4 months, when if anything, the background conditions will only deteriorate?
At least it looks drier for the next home games, but will that be enough?
Some very radical solutions are needed, and needed fast. | | | |

I posted yesterday that it appears to me that the only way of salvaging this season and the excellent start we have made is to move grounds. Yes it wont be San Spotty, but our away from home performances and points tally has been more than decent that we should be ok.
Surely the League have to be asking questions, If I was a NL club official from any team due to play us between now and say March I would be raising concerns, and rightly so.
Then we have our fellow fans, postponements (especially late, last minute) causes ill feeling, we get a reputation for postponing games so away fans may well think 'I'm not going up there for the game to be called off' this loses us money.
Just my opinion, but stop wasting money on this remedial machinery, whatever was mentioned yesterday and do the only sensible thing left and that is move our home games to another venue. This cannot continue as is. |  | | |

Obviously disappointed but better than finding out a game was off at 6.00pm in the Ratcliffe (eg Boston last season) or whilst walking down Spotland Rd in a torrential downpour like the other Saturday against Southend.
One downside is that we could be fourth in the table come Thursday morning.
I’ve seen this issue about incorrect pitch maintenance in the past following major improvement works; if correct then it’s been a major error of false economy and probably means no means of chasing repairs under warranty.
If the ultimate solution is to play matches at another ground then please let’s try and use the same alternative ground. Extremely inconvenient and raising other logistic and contractual issues as well with sponsors etc. Let’s not become nomads.

Another issue created by this postponement is that the weekend’s rest has now become a hindrance, leaving the squad inactive until this coming Saturday. I’d imagine a bounce game of some sort will need to be arranged to restore match sharpness ahead of what promises to be a difficult away fixture.
The psychological impact of this enforced break shouldn’t be underestimated either, especially as the players watch their hard-earned place at the top of the table slip away, however temporarily. |  |

We will be out of a rhythm having not played for two weeks and there needs to be a realisation amongst everyone how much the disappointment of not playing a football match just because there’s been a bit of rain will impact the squad and management. edit: sorry, just seen Fitzo covered this.
If there is no significant movement to provide solutions to the obvious problem in the next week, then that negative feeling will only grow.
Back to a previous point, if the last week had seen no rain and we played tonight, would we have heard a word about issues with the pitch? Because the problem would still have been there. Those contingencies mentioned yesterday are yet another sticking plaster.
One other thing, while previous regimes may have made big errors that has nothing to do with where we stand today. The club makes decisions at any one moment. Of course there’s some hindsight involved, but the decisions they make now have to be swift and decisive. [Post edited 4 Nov 17:28]

As you say, swift and decisive action needed. If the COA pitch can be sorted during the winter months (don't know how viable that is, but when we had the failed refurb prior to the Spurs tie it was February as the Beast from the East was on it's way)

After 29/11 v Eastleigh
30/12 Hartlepool
3/1 Brackley
24/1 Truro
So can any significant work be done on the pitch between 30/11 and 23/1 which will ensure we can complete the rest of the season with minimal issues? If the answer to that is yes, then we would only need to play two home games (Hartlepool and Brackley) at another ground.
That 55 day window could be increased to 66 days if we played Eastleigh elsewhere too. The Everton NL Cup tie would need switching as well and we’d have to ask for away ties in the Trophy if that’s allowed. [Post edited 4 Nov 19:09]
