Always a good read if you can get one. Lets hope that the club have printed more for this Sunday - they had sold out a full hour before kick off last Saturday

Heavy rain forecast for Sunday morning now, continuing a bit lighter during the afternoon

No concerns about the game being on whatsoever (what a nightmare that would've presented!) but it'll likely be a different surface to the York game, perhaps (even) more attritional

Thanks.

Fortunately, I did most of it before the York game, "just in case".

Maestro? No. Elite? No. Heavyweight poster? No. Able to be rational and not over-react to individual results? Yes.

Would you be involved if we manage to go just that little bit further after Sunday?

How does it work,like?

No, as the final isn't our home game! The National League outsource production to a publishing company.

They will have access to our/my photos and player profiles and the club's media may have to do something for them, but that's me done until July/August.

With the additional Willbutts allocation, Sunday's gate is bound to exceed the gate against York

When was the last time we had consecutive 7000+ home gates?

There were some pretty high attendances towards the end of the first promotion season.
I think Doncaster, Wrexham, Halifax and Southend were all 9000 plus.
Capacity was so much higher in those days though which is slightly frightening when you think about it.

I don't think they were quite that high, maybe in the 6000-7000 range, including one against.... York

If anyone has records from back then, might be worth checking?

Can't recall anything similar since then

Home attendances from Easter onwards in 1969:

York 6886
Doncaster 12647
Chester 4884
Chesterfield 7600
Wrexham 6635
Halifax 12806
Southend 9095

I was way out with the Wrexham figure, sorry.

The Southend attendance was notable inasmuch as there were very few away fans.

So 57 years ago when it last happened, and possibly only the second time in our history tomorrow

Games seemed so much easier to stage then, despite the hooligan element. You just turned up with cash. Progress, eh?

Good shouts

Still more than half a century ago, i.e. a supporting lifetime for many

It feels a privilege to have been there... and now here. Much depends on a successful conclusion to the three-year plan of course, but eventually we should be able to look back on last Saturday as a slippery stepping stone on our journey, and a tale to tell the children / grandchildren (like the one my father told me)

.....and it was quite easy to climb over the various perimiter fences surrounding San Spotty and get in without paying.

And not forgetting the first two home games of 1921/22 (7000 & 8000), 1922/23 (8000 & 10000), etc...

Then when attendances became more precise, in Feb 1926 (8342 v Chesterfield, 7544 v Grimsby), the first three home games of 1926/27 (7440 v Crewe, 7947 v Durham, 7564 v Wrexham), the first two home games of 1927/28 (10253 v Stockport, 9669 v Nelson), and so on.

A good week in September 1947 - 9027 v Hull, 10868 v Halifax, 8551 v Accrington.

But it looks like the best run occurred in October 1948 - 10836 v Crewe, 11151 v Accrington, 14967 v Hull.

That's great info

The key point about opening up these conversations about our history - even where my initial impressions aren't 100% accurate in terms of the finer detail (especially when it's a story passed down to me) is that it might help put our current situation in a greater context, and maybe even help with the perspective of those who're "not sure about how we can recover" from last Saturday. If the conversation helps with the latter, it's a bonus, but not necessary

I'll emphasise again therefore - it's about the context and having the history to look back on, and should be taken in the spirit it's intended

Glad you asked this, I was wondering. Let’s hope for a successful week & it being the start of a new era for us, we seem to have missed out on the recent crowd boom as it coincided with us getting relegated but last Saturday, despite the outcome really seems to have captured the attention of the town.

Forza Nerazzurri

I was there too for that one as well.
A hell of a crush leaving the ground at the Sandy Lane end is an abiding memory as a nine year old, a mate who my brother and I took with us don't think he ever went again.

I was at all those games...my first season being allowed to attend. The Orient game was my very first League match and we lost 3-0. But apart from that setback; we had a really good start to life in the third division (as it was back then) until Tony Buck suffered a broken leg and we couldn't afford to replace him.

I think I'd attended the Lancashire Cup game against Everton just before those...remember Steve Melledew signing for them soon after. That was my first visit to Spotland, and I was hooked.

Melledew signed for. Everton shortly after the pre season friendly with Everton. He later played for Everton in a Lancashire Senior Cup game at Spotland.

I’ve just had the random thought that if the weather forecast is for rain this afternoon then the more exuberant spectators may be deterred from running onto the pitch.
Six months ago I would have been anxious at the prospect of rain.

Beckwith back on the bench instead of Barlow. Otherwise same as last week. Would have preferred a more attacking option at left wing back.
