Looking forward to next season 17:44 - May 13 with 13603 viewsisitme

Under contract

Moss
Ebanks-Landell
Beckwith
East
Adebayo-Rowling
Bilongo
Gilmour
Pettit
Francis
Humbles
Hannant
Rodney
Dieseruvwe

We have a good spine that could challenge in League Two. I suspect Humbles might be made available for transfer.

Contracts expired

Gordon
Tutonda
Allarakhia
Gomez-Mancini
Pritchard
Barlow
Burger
Myles
McBride
Hosannah
Duku
Smith
Edwards
Henderson

Gordon signing a new deal would be excellent news. I would offer Pritchard a new deal as his versatility would be very useful. I also do not think we saw the best of him due to injury. The other players I would say thank you for your efforts, but we need to move on. Barlow maybe as a depth number 10 option?

Loans expiring

Whatmuff
Perry
Baptiste
Gordon

I would have Whatmuff and Perry back in a heartbeat, but I suspect they are destined for League One next season.

What do we need?

- Two goalkeepers – one to start and one to develop.
- Gordon to sign a new contract or a replacement if he leaves.
- Cover for Ebanks-Landell and Beckwith.
- Two starting wingbacks, preferably an actual left footer for the left hand side.
- Two number 10s with at least one who is direct and pacey like Hayes.
- A physical centre forward who could start if needed so there is not a massive drop off between Dieseruvwe and his back up.
- Another forward who could play the central role and wide if needed a sort of Henderson replacement.

A lot of this will depend on budget and how much we use the loan market.

Would agree with most of that. We also need to recruit for system changes, going to a front two now we know the quality in midfield would allow it would also help lessen the role on Dieseruvwe.

The squads late on in the season told their own story, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a surprising contract offer or two. Burger can play different roles so he might be one, Tutonda another depending on who we already have lined up. One thing we do know is that we’re prepared to run with a larger than required squad at times and it doesn’t impact the togetherness.

The goalkeeper situation is crucial.
We could have used nearly a dozen keepers in the last three seasons.
I’d like to see us sign someone permanently; loan keepers can be recalled at short notice eg Louie Moulden.
The transfer window applies in the EFL so you can’t always drag in players at short notice.

Winterbottom and Male would be possible choices. The former with Broome or a loanee as back up/competition would probably work.

For goalkeeper I was really impressed with Desbois from Gateshead- but the game I saw him in was against York so reckon they were probably too!

Could see contracts being offered to Gordon, Myles, Burger, Hendo and Smith (also agree with Tutonda as he seems very popular as an obvious back up)

As an outside punt could see Pritchard leaving- mainly due to increased competition for places and the signing of Hannant pushes him a bit further down the pecking order.

Could also see us potentially going in for Ayinde on a permanent deal.

Winterbottom would be a decent shout, but when was the last time we had our own keeper as first choice?

New contracts to be offered to Gordon, Myles, Burger, Hendo, Smith, Pritchard and possibly Tutonda.

I can see Gordon stepping up a division and would not surprise me if he has already been tapped up.
Like to see Perry back in a Dale shirt and with playing in the EFL next season it could well happen.
As for whatmuff well that depends upon Pep and if Whatmuff wants to..

As for Myles i think that McNulty rated him for the future when he signed last summer...

In sure the Gateshead keeper was on loan from Slough.

Thought Broome did well when he played also.

Abdul Malik would be very welcome..don’t see many like him !,

Will also be interesting to see how much more players such as Francis and Bilongo feature with a preseason with us under their belt. Think it's fair to say that neither have hit the heights we'd have hoped for yet.

I always felt we were impacted after the loan market was restricted to transfer windows in the football league- we never quite seemed to get the right quality throughout the squad. I'm sure McNulty and the team will have a plan for this (probably keeping strong utility players like Pritchard tbf!)

Myles, Pritchard and Burger all signed on 'initial' deals so I imagine there are extensions that can be triggered

I’d be offering contracts to…

Gordon
Taz
Pritchard
Barlow
Smith
Hendo - last hurrah, can clearly still add something off bench.

Poss Burger and McBride unless others on radar.

I’d be moving mountains to get Whatmuff back for another season and offering Gordon whatever he wants to sign a new contract.

I’d love for us to put a bid in for Abdulmalik but I doubt we’d be successful, I also think Bush would be worth a bid as would Ayinde.

Really looking forward to see how we approach a squad refresh for next season, I have every faith in the club and reckon they’ll already have targets and will be making approaches as we speak.

I’m sure BJ has plenty of irons in the fire.
Is there anyone at Harrogate or Barrow worth looting?
I remember when Aldershot were relegated a few years ago Hilly went and signed Peter Vincente and Olly Lancashire who were relatively unknown but who went onto do well at Spotland.

Sorry I forgot to clarify that Henderson should definitely be offered another year.

Don’t think we should be looking at Whatmuff unless the player himself thinks it’s best for his development. Needs to be playing higher eg Trafford to Bolton type move.

Boreham Wood have made it clear they don’t intend selling anyone, so unless championship team (or Peterborough) offer them 500k- 1m, then there’s little chance Abdulmalik leaves. No matter what our owners resources are, we shouldn’t be looking at spending silly money. Ayinde can definitely see being on McNulty’s radar.

I wouldn't be surprised to see only two players offered new contracts, Gordon and Hendo, maybe Barlow. Pritchard had injury problems at Oldham and they've continued throughout this season. How many games has he started? The rest are fringe players and in the case of Berger he hasn't even been in the matchday squads since Scunthorpe away. We need better quality in EFL2 and any wages saved will help with the budget. We need players who are good enough to force themselves into the starting eleven and stay there, i don't think there are many of those on the list of players who are out of contract. The budget will have to be a competitive one but the owners will know that.

I would think that Henderson will go out on a high and retire. A fair point regarding Pritchard although with any contract negotiation it depends on terms. A one year deal on a reasonable wage provides depth if fit.

I'd give Pritchard a two yeat contact if we could keep him on the pitch. Not sure how much we paid Mancini Gomez but it was a waste of a wage due to injuries. We can't afford to do that.

He's still got Gary Jones' appearances record to break.

Maestro? No. Elite? No. Heavyweight poster? No. Able to be rational and not over-react to individual results? Yes.

Really can't see Burger being offered anything - he's too lightweight and spends half the time falling over when there's any physical contact. Mcbride isn't good enough either - as for Myles? You've lost me there sorry.

Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

Thinking about the last time we were in the Football League and the feeling that the majority of the squad seemed unrelatable and generally disconnected with the fans, and the club in general. I'd be offering terms to Gordon, Tutonda, Allarakhia, Pritchard, Barlow, Burger, McBride, Smith & Henderson. All have ability and have shown themselves to be good characters from what I can see. Lets keep this squad culture in-tact. Maybe Henderson can have some involvement with the Academy alongside a reduced playing role now that it will presumably be 're-launched' with EFL funding ? Assuming he has the interest. I assume Edwards is going elsewhere of his own accord. He'd be a keep too based on the potential shown.

There is a famous phrase in business. If you stand still, you get overtaken. Bringing back so many players who struggled to make the bench is not going to cut it in League Two. We need to bring in players who will start.

Constant improvement... Players, Staff, Management across the club have to improve outcomes every day. Its a mantra that works in just about every scenario, from Primary schools to Toyota...
We need at least 2 players for every position, all need to be capable of playing their role seamlessly when called upon, ideally with almost undetectable differences in outcomes,. I think there will be 2 or 3 changes in key positions in the starting 11 with a general strengthening of the whole squad. Obviously the Goalkeeping position will be a priority, cover for EEL , possible replacement for Gordon if he moves on. The emergence of Pettit and arrival of Francis allows for more attention to be paid to wingbacks and strikers... ManiD needs a better partner as the Henderson cameos seem to have indicated....

GK; we need 2 (Myles may be offered a deal)

Defenders:
Moss, Ebanks-Landell, Bilongo, Beckwith
- offer Gordon a contract + recruit 2 CD's & a FB)

Midfielders;
East, Adebayo-Rowling, Gilmour, Hannant, Pettit, Francis, Humbles (I think may be offloaded)
- offer Barlow and Pritchard a contract
(Corey Edwards is out of contract, but if we offer him a new deal and lets he signs for Stockport for example, instead, will we get a fee due to his age)

Strikers:
Rodney, Dieseruvwe,
- offer Henderson (player-coach role), Smith + recruit 1 more striker

I would let everyone else go.

May I ask what are the rules on squad sizes in the EFL

Exactly this Jim has some tough decisions to make.

The majority out of contract in my opinion should be thanked and then released.

Huge but necessary task to then replace with players who are a notch or two up in quality / experience or both.

Hoping Jim is looking at players released from League 1 or loans that are the equivalent quality to Whatmuff and Perry, both superb signings last season.
