Stockport were rumoured to be interested even before McNulty went there. If Gordon had wanted to stay, he could have signed a contract during last season like others, it is an understandable career move. No reason to doubt his affinity for Dale, or McNulty’s for that matter, but football will always come first.

I think these last 3 months have sent people a bit potty. And rightly so, it’s been a whirlwind.
In summary, we’ve had a little sabbatical away from our motherland. In that time, we’ve had a high churn of players. Some good, some not so good. One would argue with exception to Gordon, we have tied down the ones that really mattered. The nucleus of the ones tied down are the right age, righty calibre, right mentality to be a success back in the football league. Our new man also fits that bill and seems like a chap that players will want to play for at a place where they can enjoy their game time supported by one of the most resilient and patient fan bases out there.
Players come and go, managers come and go. The fans and the owners are staying, and we are Rochdale.
A few signings over the next 10 days will put the spring back in the step. Firming up pre season plans, seeing the planning submission and CGIs for the training ground get submitted is exciting. The stadium upgrades, circa 3,000 season tickets, safe standing, U Block bouncing, flags waving, a carpet of a surface, a shiny new trophy cabinet. WHAT A TIME.
We are back. From the lowest of lows. To the highest of highs. Give me a 15th finish in League Two next season all day long.
Our new man will be well connected. It’s all about perspective. Jim McNulty signed Kyron Gordon, Ryan East, Gilmour, Beckwith, Casey Petit, Callum Perry etc. Not a single one of us knew much about these players nor had a clue what they would turn out like. Ian Watsons phone will be glowing red already, we don’t need to worry. Change isn’t nice but this time 12 months ago if Jim had of been relieved of his duties some argued it was the right time. Strap in for the journey, last season is history already and we need motor forward and the nearest comparison for the direction we have the ability to head is those on the other side of the M60. Our foundations are stronger than ever before… now it’s a case of tapping into all the potential. |  | | |

Agree with that, Beckwith will improve next season playing in EFL2. Gordon might get caught out defensively in a higher league but he strikes me as a fast learner, i hope he smashes it and gets to return to his home club Sheffield United. It's a big jump for him though going to Stockport from the National League. | | | |

I also have a funny feeling that we have a lot of players already in the building who we are yet to see perform at their maximum capability. I think the system we played in the National League and also the tempo at times enabled them to sometimes stay in their comfort zone and still perform at the neccessary level but they are capable of much more. I include East, Gilmour, Rodney, Tobi, Beckwith in that. Then we have Petit, Frances and Moss who will be chomping at the bit to claim a starting place. Familiarity breeds content, it seemed to me that there was a bit of that going on and it might have subconsciously contributed to the drop in performances. I don't want to see sterile performances like Hartlepool away and listen to a manager endorsing it afterwards, those players are much better than that. There was too much of that going on in the end and players like Petit and Frances who seemed to be on the outside looking in. So yes, i'm not unhappy to see a new manager in the building with new ideas. | | | |

Beckwith's injury probably cost him a move, so he sensibly took the contract extension. A good first few months in League Two could see teams sniffing in January. It will be interesting whether he is playing on the left of a back three or as one of two centre backs. The later would probably negate some of his attacking talents. | | | |

I think Pettit will be getting more starts, more gametime. We'll need a more solid base to our midfield in L2 and he provides that, whilst having a goal threat from outside the box - talking of which, i think we'll be seeing more efforts on goal
