Huge housing developments in the pipeline 20:59 - Nov 3 with 2353 views | D_Alien | http://www.rochdaleonline.co.uk/news-features/2/news-headlines/106035/public-con Could these plans, if they come to fruition, lead to more people coming through the turnstiles? What do people think of the plans in general? I'm all for them. There will still be plenty of greenbelt land and it could just be the kickstart the borough needs. The country as a whole is crying out for affordable housing.

Huge housing developments in the pipeline on 22:18 - Nov 3 with 2204 views | 49thseason | All the housing in Rochdale is "affordable" compared to most of the rest of the country. The plan is to build the equivalent of 2 new Stockports within the Greater Manchester boundary, nearly a quarter of a million new houses. This begs the question "who are these houses for" and if they are indeed needed, where are the infrastructure plans to go with them? 15,000 new houses have huge implications for healthcare, schools, roads, police - and that's just for Rochdale.
Huge housing developments in the pipeline on 22:18 - Nov 3 with 2204 views | dalenumber2 | I believe the plans for Bamford involve 750 very expensive houses on Norden Road - shudder to think of the traffic and sad to think of the loss of the green belt

Yes. It'll be a shame if they take over the fields in between Norden Rd and St.Michael's church.

That field is always under about 2 foot of water even in the summer so that should be interesting getting house insurance. Surprised they've not built on that piece of land opposite Bamford precinct yet either that looks ideal.

That's the very reason it was rejected as a site for the new cemetery, which has since opened on Sandy Lane. Anyone building on there must be mad.

Huge housing developments in the pipeline on 11:07 - Nov 4 with 1712 views | D_Alien | I see Andy Burnham is already putting his oar in, with the really helpful suggestion of building 'social housing' miles from nowhere. Given the demographics, it's a good bet he'll be elected mayor of Gtr Manchester - god help us. Why can't he go and interfere in his own bloody backyard? He reminds me of a mardy schoolboy who wants to be popular so will say anything he thinks will ingratiate him with the crowd. [Post edited 4 Nov 2016 11:10]

People will shop anywhere there is a decent selection of shops. Obviously the current set up of pound shops, b and m bargains and phone shops isn't going to attract many people.. If the plans of a good market, Next, M & S, Primark come to fruition with a cinema and restaurants then of course people will come into Rochdale.

The same will happen like it did on the Caldershaw estate when they all start sinking...by then the money men will be long gone anyway...

That was a scandal. At least the householders had recourse to recover money via the housebuilders guarantee system, but the decision should never have been made. You can't ever adequately compensate anyone for losing their home.

I see M & S are planning to announce the closure of 30 of their stores on Tuesday. That's 10% of their stores apparently. Struggling stores in problem high streets have been mentioned. What's the betting Rochdale's store is on this list ?

Weren't there rumours of M&S being one of the big boys into building where the old bus station used to be?
