This post was triggered by reading the memories of Rochdale thread and also catching up with an old mate on facebook who I haven't seen for donkey years and as you do recounting old stories about old times and old mates. Ive told this tale before on here but its worth repeating as its absolutely true.
1976 ish Littleborough Sunday league Blue Ball v cant remember.
Home games we got changed in a panel beaters workshop off smithy bridge rd we either walked or short car hop to ground. As we pulled up at the ground the ref pulled up behind us, the actual pitch was a short walk through the houses from the road. Ian Mellodew spotting the ref points at him and says "not you again your still a c*nt." Apparently Ian had been sent off on the Saturday playing for Whittles for calling the same ref the same term of endearment. The ref without breaking stride said "Mellowdew get changed again your off" all this 10 mins before kick off, stood on smithy bridge rd, 200 yards from the pitch.
It was great growing up in Rochdale you couldn't make a story like that up.
