Refwatch Preview: Forest Green (a)
Refwatch Preview: Forest Green (a)

Magic of the FA Cup, plucky non league opponents, the return of Tony Gubba, and a million other FA Cup clichés. Time for the FA Cup refwatch.

First year official Graham Scott will be in charge at the New Lawn on Saturday, refereeing a Dale game for the first time.

His most recent match was last Saturday at Lincoln, when he sent-off Shrewsbury’s Richard Walker after just three minutes for violent conduct.

That was Mr Scott’s fifth red card this season, although none can have been as clear cut as that he brandished at MK Dons’ goalkeeper Willy Gueret in their home game against Cheltenham at the end of October.

Anybody who saw that incident will know exactly what I mean!

Having only joined the league list this term, it’s no surprise that Graham has refereed Forest Green before.

Indeed, he was in the middle for their FA Cup first round tie at home to Rotherham last season, which finished 2-2 before the non-leaguers won the replay 3-0 at Millmoor.

He also took charge of Forest Green’s home match against Stevenage early last season, while in 2006/07 he refereed their 2-0 defeat of Halifax.

Mr Scott ended last season by refereeing Exeter’s home defeat by Torquay in the Blue Square Premier play-off semi-final first leg.
