Jewell: Offer in to Premier League Club

Town boss Paul Jewell has revealed that the Blues have made an offer for a Premier League defender. The Blues manager says the bid is for a potential permanent signing and not a loanee with Aston Villa’s Shane Lowry reported to have been watched in reserves action last night with a view to a loan move.

Jewell, who is desperate to add to his backline ahead of Saturday’s home game against Leeds, said: "We've been trying to get in more defenders since the end of last season. We've made enquiry after enquiry and it's been very frustrating but you have to be patient.

"An offer has gone in for a player last night. It's a new target and I'm waiting for his manager to get back to me this morning.

"It's an offer for a centre-half who plays for a Premier League club. It is dependent on them but I am hopeful."

Jewell also has further targets: “We are definitely a couple of centre-backs short, maybe we need someone to push Carlos at right-back, we need another midfielder and a forward thinking player too, whether that be a wide player or someone who can play through the middle.

“I’m aware we need to strengthen more than anybody, I see the players every day, but the key thing is that we are not wasteful with our money."

Icelandic veteran Ívar Ingimarsson will miss Saturday’s game with his thigh injury, while Tommy Smith is suspended for one match for his red card at Peterborough.
