Boro Again Linked With Scotland, Town With Austrian Defender

Saturday’s opponents Middlesbrough are again being linked with a move for Town striker Jason Scotland. Meanwhile, the Blues, Watford and Nottingham Forest have been mentioned in connection with former Rapid Vienna defender Andreas Dober.

Boro, who are managed by ex-Blue Tony Mowbray, were previously linked with Scotland just before the transfer window closed.

Now, the Teessiders are said to be ready to make a move for the 32-year-old Trinidadian, initially on loan but with a view to a permanent deal, with Mowbray’s assistant and one-time Town central defensive partner Mark Venus having watched the Blues’ 3-0 victory over Coventry.

The Blues are reported to want a fee ultimately totalling £750,000 for Scotland, which seems unlikely with a figure of £250,000 understood to have been agreed with Blackpool before the player turned down the switch to Bloomfield Road late last month.

Austrian international Dober, 25, is a right-back or centre-half, who is currently a free agent having left Rapid Vienna in the summer.

The six-foot tall defender, who has been capped three times by his country, including his debut against England in 2005, came through the youth system at his hometown club, spending time on loan at Rheindorf Altach before breaking into the Rapid first team.

As Dober is out of contract, he could be signed on a permanent basis outside the transfer window.
