Seven subs for FL from 2009-10
Saturday, 13th Jun 2009 06:54
All teams in the Football League will be able to name seven substitutes on the bench from next season, after the FL decided to go the same way as the Premier League in adopting the 7 sub rule.
It's not a totally new concept for Football League clubs. It was something that we could do for last season's FA Cup, and it must have been considered a success as in the annual FL meeting based in Portugal, clubs voted to adopt the seven sub stance.
The decision to increase the number of subsitutes was made after Championship club Derby County put forward the proposal. Despite the number of named subs being increased, teams will still be limited to making a maximum of three changes during any game.
